There have been 2 bidders going at each other for the last hour trying to win the baseball Ohtani hit for a double in Game 1 of the World Series. Hard to believe one of them isn't the same investment company that bought the 50-50 baseball. Current bidding is at $300,000. MLB auctions have a five minute clock extension after every bid. This may go on for a while if both have unlimited funds and desire.

Actually closed at $302,000.

A contextual bargain!

Thanks for posting the link. When I first saw it the current high bid was 20-something thousand dollars, and I was amazed. But I guess when it comes to Ohtani, all bets go out the window. (No pun intended. Okay, maybe just a little.)

Meanwhile, I was thinking that if he hit a home run in the World Series, that ball would be worth a million, at least. And since the sale of the 50/50 ball was just about a week earlier and presumably still fresh in the minds of even non-collectors, I can't imagine the Dodgers even pretending to make an offer to the fan who got it. (Heh... and if it had happened in Yankee Stadium, I wonder if whoever would have caught it might have gotten caught up in the heat of the moment and thrown it back... )
