Game 5 was a Yankees disaster, no matter how you slice it.

Cole pitched his butt off. The Series should have gone back to LA for a game 6.

This team was a hot and cold team all year, more so than any World Series team in my memory.

Judge - the Captain - is the anti-Captain. He never shows up in the postseason. How do you take your eyes off a fly like that? Judge's boner.

Soto is gone. Probably to the Dodgers, who, like George Steinbrenner, thumb their nose at luxury tax. George's sons are/were NOTHING like their father. If George was still running the show, Boone would have been gone long ago, the Yankees would have unloaded Stanton, and the high-priced free agents brought in would be dumped if they were washed up.

But congrats to the Dodgers. Dave Roberts has evolved into a fine manager. Freddie deserves to be the Series MVP. Soto will almost certainly go to the Dodgers.

That would be a b*tch move!

It's like when Kevin Durant couldn't beat the Warriors, so what did he do? He joined them! Yeah, he got his ring, but ruined his reputation forever.

Yankees had a higher batting average, higher OBP, higher slugging, and lower ERA for the Series than the Dodgers. Still lost.

The difference is exactly those runs in the fifth

Too bad game four didn't include the Yankees managing to score two of their six men ultimately left on base, for a final score of Yankees 13 Dodgers 4, in which case the Yankees would have scored more runs in the series than the Dodgers.

Final score of the series was Dodgers 25 - Yankees 24.

It all just proves that the only stat that REALLY matters is games won.

Aaron Judge's last error before this game was May 24, 2023.

As a Yanks fan, all I can say is I’m glad that dumpster fire of an inning happened in Game 5 of a series they were already down in, instead of a Game 7. That would have been an absolute gut punch.

Silver linings.

Aaron Judge isn't the first New York outfielder to drop a fly ball at a critical moment in the World Series. But he hits more homers than my friend Fred Snodgrass, so he will likely be forgiven. Also, Giancarlo Stanton must be the slowest baserunner in MLB history - Ernie Lombardi deserves an apology

In seriousness, that NYY defense was beyond atrocious in game 5. was hoping for a longer Series.

If you want to see a really mind-boggling difference in stats between a losing team and a winning team in the World Series, check out the 1960 Series between the Yanks and the Pirates.

I'll start it off with:

Yankees 3.54 ERA

Pirates 7.11 ERA

The Yankees DESTROYED the Pirates in just about every offensive stat you can think of in that series, EXCEPT "games won".

Average runs scored per game : Yankees 7.86 vs Pirates 3.86

Yankees won games by average of 11.67 runs (2 unearned)

Pirates won by games an average of 1.75 runs (0.5 unearned)

Well there's a reason coaches keep telling players that fielding is half the game.
