Recently, one of the greats of Baseball passed away. He played in Cuba in the last Professional Championship 1960-61, with the Havana team. He also played in Mexico and in the Major Leagues. In Cuba, the only Professional Championship he played in, he won the title of Rookie of the Year. , son of another of the great players of the Cuban League and the Negro Leagues, I show a ball signed by him with the Havana team and a photo in Mexico in 1957 representing Cuba, signed on the back. I was lucky enough to see him play for Habana in 1960....

Default 1960 Luis Tiant

Great team photo with a teenage Luis Tiant. I have attached photos of Tiant on the cover of a Mexican baseball magazine picturing him with the 1960 Mexico City Tigers and a photo of him with the 1960-61 Habana team. Luis Tiant was one of my favorite players and I was lucky enough to meet him in person. He was one of the good guys.

Today I received the unfortunate news of the death of one of my great friends, Luis Zayas, a great professional baseball player, he belonged to the Cienfuegos and Habana teams and also to the Cuban Sugars Kings team, I saw him play in the Cuban Professional League, and For many years of friendship he visited me from time to time and we shared anecdotes about the history of Cuban Baseball at my house. He always asked me to see his photos from that stage. Now I show you some photos of Zayas. In the first one we see him receiving a trophy like player of the Sugars Kings, in the 2nd with one of the great Cuban pitchers Camilo Pascual of the Cienfuegos team, the 3rd was when the 70th anniversary of the Cerro Stadium, part of a documentary directed by Yodeni Maso, which is about the player and the fan of that Great Stadium, Zayas and I participated, interviewed by Yodeni, it was broadcast by Cuban Television, the other photo of a ball signed by the members of the Havana team in the 1960-61 season, (last professional) signed by Zayas

Monte Irvin and Kevin Connors in the 1948-49 Cuban winter season played for the Almendares team, which that year won the Cuban championship and also won the 1st Caribbean Series in Havana. I show some photos of different posters with the Almendares players and some signed by Monte Irvin during the visits he made to my house in 2004, most of which he had never seen, he really liked the one in color, and He asked me to get him one, I looked for it among my old things and I found it, when he visited me two days later I gave it to him and he was very happy, unforgettable memories for me.

I thought I would post this here as well as the memorabilia section as this is home of the literal experts in the field. I came across this anonymous image a while back and I'm wondering if it could possibly be the 1918-19 Almendares squad? It is hard to find images for the entire team, but I believe I have been able to identify a half dozen or so members. I say "believe" because I'm terrible at comparing faces so I would appreciate anyone's input here. Could this be 1918-19 Almendares or am I just slightly crazy. Thanks and Happy Holiday all!

Who I think I might have identified.

#6 - Alfredo Cabrera

#10 - Jose Lopito Lopez

#12 - Agustin Parpetti

#14 - Jose Maria Fernandez

#15 - Jose Rodriguez

#18 - Gervasio Gonzalez

Default 1918-19 Alemdares

I am not sure of the year of the photo you have but it is not from the 1918-19 season. Below is a photo taken of the Almendares club on the inaugural day of the 1918-19 season. Note the difference in the uniform.
