The White Sox of the late 1970s were a fun team to watch. Besides seeing Minoso bat in 1976 against the Angels, I cheered on the 1977 team, which won 90 games with their crazy "vintage" jerseys that predated the throwback era. I have an autograph book from the spring of 1950 that includes signatures of Lemon, Doby and Minoso, who were all teammates on the Indians, which, like the '78 White Sox, were owned by Bill Veeck. How good would the Indians have been if they didn't trade Minoso to the White Sox?

In only two seasons later, Steve Stone would win 25 games for the Orioles.

While not an "important" signature, Jerry Hairston is below Larry Doby on this ball and represents a lineage of big league ball players that finds it's roots in the Negro Leagues.
