There is a very nice King Kelly N162 piece in the current LOTG auction. It could provide an interesting data point on the resale value of these items.

Mine no secret, I’ve posted it here before. My point was that these don’t come to market very often and as such there are few data points on resale value.

My bad...did not realize you were simply doing the community a favor to point it out.

For you I hope I am wrong. I will guess significantly less than you paid to have it made. I have had 9 cut card pieces made and wouldn't expect to even break even on any of them if I decided to sell.

Hi Ben! I hope you are wrong too but we’ll see. Does anyone know what the new pieces are selling for now? I don’t think most people buy them with the thought of reselling them, but eventually virtually everything does get resold and I think most would hope that what they bought, if not appreciating, would at least retain its’ value.

These are highly subjective pieces and I don't think it would be wise to buy them with an intention to sell them later. Everyone picks their card, no?
What I mean is, you could have a card that appeals to a lot of people made. Like an 89 UD Griffey, for example. But most of the pieces are cards that were personal favorites of the person who commissioned the piece. Or at least that was my understanding. Last edited by packs; 09-17-2024 at 02:33 PM. |

im under the impression only one of any given card will ever be made...atleast that was the initial policy. I believe these are like ten times the cost to have commissioned as when I had mine made years ago. Obviously the popularity/desitrability of the piece/card will affect its sale price...along with the current cost to commission one along with the fact only 1 of a card will ever be made.

Maybe if there was a low starting bid. IMO a high starting bid just shows little faith in auction format
