Am I the only one who didn't realize those were cardboard cut-outs and was trying to figure out what in high heck was going on with those shrunken-head pictures???

The cutouts definitely fooled me on first look. They are very well done.

I always thought that the players were there and they had a cutout in the middle for the kid to put his/her head to take a pic. When Lucas posted a photo from different years with the same players with the same pose I realized they were “all” cutouts. So, you definitely weren’t the only one. |

Day 256 – 13 September 2024
Today I am showing you a Type 1 Photo of Brooks Robinson, Boog Powell and Frank Robinson each receiving awards in 1966. Each signed the photo. Frank is holding a plaque from Sports Magazine on and wearing a crown. Not sure exactly what the plaque is. Frank won league MVP with his triple crown season and WS MVP. Brooks and Boog are holding some type of plaque as well. Brooks won the gold glove, AS game MVP and Lou Gehrig Memorial Award in 1966. Boog won the comeback player of the year award in 1966. Can’t read a lot of detail on the awards. The photo is signed by all three Oriole Hall of Famers. It measures 7.5 in X 8 in. |

Day 257 – 14 September 2024
Similar to my post on 10 September 2024, I am showing you a sign used possibly for groups or companies buying a section of tickets for their members or employees. In turn, the group or company would write in the name of the team the tickets were for to advertise the game. The Orioles would give the sign to the group or company for internal marketing purposes. Mark Comer provided some insights (thought maybe it was displayed in ticket windows) and later Bill (roarfrom34) did as well on 11 September 2024 post 2,945, which is described above. The sign today is blank at the bottom (Orioles vs. _____) and says “See an Award Winning Show – Catch the Orioles in Action at Memorial Stadium.” This sign measures 13 in X 17 in and is made of cardboard. The players on the board and description below leads me to believe this board is from 1974 given Grich won his first Gold Glove in 1973, Bumbry was RoY in 1973, and Weaver received his first of three Manager of the Year Awards in 1973. Similar, with Blairs 6th GG, Brooks 14th GG, the Blade’s 3d GG and Palmer’s Cy Young Award. My research though falls a little short on Tommy Davis. He was not selected for the AL Outstanding DH until 1974 but he was 3rd in the batting race in 1973 with a .306 mark and placed 10th in MVP voting. I have not framed this sign yet. |

Just wondering on Tommy Davis; he could be “League Leading” in a wide variety of categories, walks, errors, strike outs, hit by pitch, etc., since they didn’t specify. |

Actually, Davis was indeed the #1 rated DH in 1973, hitting .293 with 83 RBI in that role (check out the cover of the '74 Media Guide)

Bill and Mark, agree. He (Davis) had a great season in 1973 at DH. That was the first year of DH.

That picture was taken at the annual Tops in Sport banquet in Baltimore that was held in January of '67....Frank is wearing the Babe Ruth Crown which is presented annually to the top slugger from the season prior (and still is to this day):
