It's not exactly news that centering is king, but I'm still kinda surprised how much surface damage people will ignore for centering. Some people won't even touch a card that's not mostly or totally centered. They don't even want to consider it unless it's extremely rare and even then they're looking to upgrade asap. There's a lot of them, too.
Exactly! As long as a card is centered people disregard the fact it's been doctored to get it centered, they overlook that it has more creases than Nancy Pelosis' face or that there is dog crap smeared on the front. But hey, the card MIGHT smell, but it's centered.

You could post a card with 40 40 borders and as long as it was slabbed no one would notice and people would ooh and aah over it.

Most collectors do not prefer them. To each their own. Someone asked why the other Jackie isn't more popular. I just gave my point of view.

People like Brady Hill and Marshall Fogel? Those guys just can't get enough trimmed cards in their collections.

I am very open about the fact that I occasionally soak vintage cards in water. Some people, ignorant people with very tall horses, do not like this. The only person here dumb enough to incorporate his political views into his screen name is apparently one of them.

This thread gave me the bug. He's a little dinged up, but at least he's centered!

Holy Batman! Who gives a frog's fat ass about the creases and round corners, the way people value centering, sure to get 1.2 mill at auction

I join many others that would prefer this card (which is an awesome one) to something that looks less handled but is off center. An added bonus is I know someone didn’t trim the corners which is what happened with many older cards that have sharper ones.

Can you expand on your battle against appreciating centering? Why wouldn't someone appreciate centering?

I think $1.2M might be a bit steep for this specimen, but I could see it closing somewhere in the vicinity of $4K in the right auction. Maybe $2.5K if I drew a mustache on it.

There are certainly some very high profile guys who either don't care or seem oblivious to trimming.

Or a PSA 6 that's over graded by one grade.

Probably 1 million. With mustache, 1.8 million. If it were centered with mustache, probably close to 4 million.

The thing is though, I don't know if a Hitler stache or Rollie Fingers stache is worth more.

Like most things, it depends on the bidder. If Curt Schilling is bidding, for example, the answer becomes obvious.

Wish I still had this one! Paid a whopping $1000 to a nice gentlemen here on Net54 in the year 2017.

And sold it for a whopping $2500 in 2018 :-(

P.S. Pelosi is sexy

A.J.:

That has to be the nicest low-grade example of that card that I have ever seen. Don’t feel so bad though, it could be worse. You could have bought 5 cards c2010 (not the 1980’s when stuff cost next to nothing) for under $5K each which have all sold for $100K+ today. Except, they have been gone since 2014. Then bought everything you currently own during 2021 and watch 80% of it drop to half of what you paid for it. Imagine being that person…….
