I went yesterday. Overall, one of the most disappointing shows I can recall, IMO, especially since there were two floors. Some great cards, of course, but for the most part, mostly shiny stuff. Just my opinion...

I thought it was one of the best shows I've been to in years. Wall-to-wall vintage. I haven't seen that many rare, special cards at one show in a long time. My son came with me, we were there for 2 hours and were barely able to see 1/3 of the floor in that amount of time. Submitted some cards to SGC (very easy and quick), poked around, met some old school dealers I haven't seen in a long time...sold a T206 card to Steve Verkman (he was very fair with me)...spoke to JP at Memorylane, and Joe and team from Goldin. Really awesome show, wish we had more time today. Looking forward to the next one!
Some eye candy... |

Wowza. Nice stuff. Thanks.
I really wanted to go, but spent hours in a car in traffic yesterday and just couldn’t do another drive. Even a relatively short one. Last edited by Snapolit1; 08-17-2024 at 06:40 PM. |

Goldin hit the consignment mother lode their first Vintage Card auction is going to be remembered for a long time...said they were going to do a catalog so lots can enjoy the eye candy

I don't know Brian, but regardless, I certainly respect his opinion. Maybe more dealers set up Saturday, or maybe we covered different parts of the show, not sure...I've been going to shows since 1991, and it was one of the best ones I've been to in recent memory. We saw tons of vintage (definitely a fair share of modern, but a really substantial amount of vintage). Our heads were spinning right and left, we wish we had a few more hours to finish the entire floor. Next time.

Different standards and points of view, I guess. The really good cards were overpriced, as for all shows, but I do agree that the auction houses had some pretty awesome stuff, for preview, which you see in the pictures.
Ashsh had great stuff, as usual, and there was one other vendor that caught my eye. I have bought many cards at the Westchester shows and ECN over the past decade+, but this time, it was not to be. Glad others enjoyed it though--shows are always the best part of the hobby for me. |

I went even though I didn't plan to. I got an auto from Bernie Williams too. There was an unexpected amount of pre war and not just T206. I also met forum member Howard who was nice to talk to and had great vintage cards and items. I saw about 7 1952 Mantles throughout. Prices in general were high even after some bargaining and I stuck out at this one. A fair amount of under age 40 dealers and customers including those with lock boxes ready to wheel and deal for Bobby Witt Jr refractors

Was there on Friday. It's very misleading to call that show a "National". It's basically the normal White Plains show with more autograph opportunities. Yes there were a few dealers exiled to the basement (Maybe 20-30), which they had to keep announcing to remind people they were there. I spent less than 5 minutes down there before realizing there was not much of interest to me. 99% cards at this one. As mentioned, a good amount of vintage. Very little memorabilia.

This has always been a huge head-scratcher to me as well, especially when it was just housed on one floor.

I had the pleasure of doing a couple transactions with Howard Chasser. I wouldn’t hesitate to go to him, great guy! I had to get a picture of my favorite card! (Not mine Howard’s)

Danny, my son and I were 5 feet to your left when you took that photo!
![]() Just a thought, seems like those that were there Friday were, let's say, underwhelmed with the show, but those that were there Saturday, including myself, were impressed and thought it was great...maybe additional dealers set-up on Saturday? Again, speaking for Saturday only, it was very busy, great vibe, awesome selection of Vintage, etc, etc. If I didn't have plans today, I would've gone back for more. (Danny, you were there yesterday, you agree?). Last edited by MVSNYC; 08-18-2024 at 07:36 AM. |

I've been to this show on occasion, but haven't been for a few years now. It should be called the "East Coast Regional" show rather than the "East Coast National". Everyone had a a different perspective, depending on what you collect. But, there is very little memorabilia at any show, regardless of the size. Shows have changed post Covid and they are better, worse, or the same depending on your point of view.

I was driving from Franklin Square, Long Island around 12pm. But then I thought I’d might as well wait until the late October Hofstra Show. I went and bought the 8 year old a catchers mitt, baseball pants, new batting helmet and batting gloves at Play It Again Sports in Oceanside.

I was curious about that one, too. While the photo isn't the clearest, it appeared that the sig may have been live.

Clearly it was designed for Johnson to sign. My guess either directly by him or for an event like a Banquet where he was the speaker.

Yes, and wow! Never seen it before. If I had to conjecture, I'd say those photos came from one or more of the annual exhibition games he pitched in Humboldt, Kansas, where he was born and raised. This PC may have been a one-off made by a collector, or perhaps made as a giveaway at a banquet or some such. If the latter, you'd think there would be more of them around, so I'll go with the former. But who knows? At any rate, what a great WaJo piece!

The WaJo piece is simply stunning and I believe per Joe T, it was signed at a charity event.
I was at both events this weekend. Fanatics Fest was cool if you are into sports. Cards, less-so. Not many card booths were set up, especially in vintage, though James had a great type 1 photo booth. What I was kind of surprised about was that you had to walk in and walk past a bunch of sports-related booths to get to the card section; if you were really interested in making it a card show (not even sure that was the case), wouldn't you want cards front and center? That being said, I got to meet Derek Jeter, so I am biased to say it was the best show ever. joe jackson type 1 photo.jpg pete derek 1.jpg The EC National was fine. Parking was a pain on Sunday but I arrived late so that is on me. Got to chat with a few board members which was nice. Some good cards and a good turnout. I can also cross off seeing a Reccius Wagner off my "seeing cards in real life that i can't afford bucket list". reccius wagner.jpg
