It ended sometime after 3am CST. I went to sleep way before that. I was interested in a few things but not enough to stay up until the wee hours of the morning to bid. (heck I can't stay up that late anyway)

Going into the final night, I have my firm number on everything Im going after, I drop that bid at around 11 and then wake up to see if they held up.
Too old to stay up that late, and if I miss, 99/100 that card/combo will come back around again.
That said 8 bids held up

That was a long night/early morning. Some super rare stuff in there and strong results on many cards, congrats to Ryan.
I ended up with 3 14CJs and wish I had a bigger budget as there were a few more cards that I would have loved to pick up.

Caldwell went super strong! Only outbid by Mathewson, Joe Jax, Cobb and Wagner last night for the 14 CJs. Somebody wanted this card bad…I have an idea of at least two of the bidders so I will see who posts him here or in their registry. As previously stated God bless the Registry!!!
SGC commons prices just don’t stand up to the PSA commons prices which is good for a collector who just needs the card.

Price on the much heralded Jackie card from other thread was meh.

I guess the MBA gold diamond label stamp of approval ain’t what it used to be.

Gold and diamond together is pretty special. Guy should have a tanzanite platinum level for sure.

I for one always felt Terry Hughes was tragically undervalued; glad to see some collectors or perhaps even investors are finally giving him love and seeing the potential. .209 career average, which is better than my team's 36M captain right now!

Some cards I like actually softened in price, which is great for the chances of adding them all. The 1914 CJ Shoeless came down a lot-- the 4 last night sold for 90k, while a 2.5 sold for 96 in 2021, another SGC 4 sold for 120k at Mile High in 2022, and a PSA 4 sold for 150k in 2023. So that was low.

The yellow Goudey #53 Ruth 4.5 also came down a bit. The last 4.5 sale was 30k (and the last three PSA 4 sales in order of older to newer are 22-19-17).

The e121 Babe also came down. The 5 sold for 70k, was being shopped privately pre-auction for 90k, and a 3.5 sold previously 72k.

Again, not accurate at all. These go for a few hundred ungraded. Dunno if the price was attributed to it being in a PSA holder, the MBA sticker or the over the top write up that also mislead the public as it being the only one in existence.

As for the general results, prices were all over place. Some things that I thought would do well seemed to have really corrected and other things went well beyond what I had anticipated. This is a really tough market to predict.

Yup, at any given snapshot in time, some cards will sell for new record highs while others will be lower than prior sales. It's just impossible to generalize or herd all cards together. Especially given the great variance in eye appeal possible— even within cards of the same grade. Best one can do when shopping for their collection is dig into all the images and sales data available.

That has always been true for the hobby. Eye appeal might explain some of the new record prices but I think most of the record prices are being paid for either issue or condition rarity. As for prices adjusting down, I feel it is nothing more than fewer people bidding/buying. The market was far more predictable than it is now. This feels different so I do not agree it is eye appeal and that would be over generalizing what drives the market today.

I never wrote that eye appeal is the cause behind all pricing. I said it is a factor in why one cannot generalize about there being one prevailing market trend or direction.

As many of you know, I consigned a large portion of the prewar items that sold last night. I am very content with the results, although they were all over the place.

Last night's auction contained about 75% of my total consignment, with other items to sell in the Summer and Winter auctions. When I first consigned, Joe and I (Joe is with Memory Lane) sat down and we estimated a low, likely, and high value for every card. Last night, the total aggregate sales price of my consignments, with the Buyer's Premium, was about 3% above the total likely-value we placed on the items. Thus, last night's entire consignment ended, in the aggregate, almost exactly where we estimated it would. That said, many individual items went for very different amounts that expected (both good and bad).

The D304s went crazy. Literally, nonsensical; but I wont complain! The Wagner, Matty, Lajoie, Collins, and many commons went for multiples over prior highs.

My T206 set and 1914 CJ set both did better, in aggregate, than I expected. The 1914 CJ Jackson was the bad egg of the entire auction -- someone stole that card. But most other items, including commons, did very well. Same with the T206 set; the Green Cobb did not do well at all, but that was offset substantially by the other Cobbs and many PSA 7s+ and strong results for commons.

The W600 Matty went through the roof, as it should have, considering it was produced in his rookie year (albeit not the first issue of his rookie year). The Tip Top Wagner did great, and my Planks all finished very strong. Almost every Ruth finished on the lighter side of what I expected, and a few crapped the bed. Wagners and Cobbs are definitely 10%-20% off their highs, but still strong.

Put it this way, it was a very large and diverse consignment and it ended at 102%+ (including BP) of where we estimated the likely value total to be. I am happy with the results, and now I need sleep!

First off congrats to Ryan and glad ML performed to y’all’s expectations. There were Amazing lots and tons of eye candy. I was close to popping a late bid on the CJ Jackson and maybe should have earlier.

I feel asleep a little after 3AM trying to wait up to get in late bids. I refuse to place a top all bids in any auction. I don’t know why some auction companies think this is good business. HA and REA have changed and they are both the leaders for sport card auctions IMO. I wish other AHs would follow suit and close lots independently, which allows bidders all to be there, competing for that lot. The ML format we guess when the auction is gonna close. Heck, I could do a bid ever 15 minutes for 24 hours straight if I wanted to and then that would make the AH just shut it down manually. This favors all the West Coast buyers… Ok, enough complaining about the format..

The Matty W600 was amazing and no surprise to the final price. Congrats to the winner. I thought the Young Cabinet had a little meat left on the bone and maybe I should have popped a late bid on that.

My bid around 1 or 2am held up on the 1910 T213 type 1 (1910) Red Cobb which is a card I’ve always wanted. My understanding on the three types are type 1’s are most rare followed closely from type 3s (1919), then type 2s which are still rare but more common (if you can say that) for the series.

Congrats to all the winners of the ML auction including the bottom items in the gallery, as I would have bid more had I been awake. If you want to sell for quick profit then PM me….

Yes the D304 Matty that sold for $43k. If the bidders bidding that card up would have looked on Ebay they could have had a 5.5 for $15K. I was think of buying the Ebay one at 5:am. it sold I if figured early morning!

What were your thoughts on the ending price on your Psa 6 1916 M101-4 Herpolsheimer Joe Jackson? $50,741.76 before the BP seemed low as well.

I believe the ML style of closing greatly increases prices. Extended bidding started at 7pm, and from 7pm to well over midnight, my cards were getting many multiple bids per minute. I don’t believe this would have happened in an REA/Heritage format, where you only have 15-30 minutes to pivot and are often closed out of lots you would have bid again on, but extended bidding on those lots had ended. Under ML’s style, a bidder can, and does, have more time and options to pivot if/when they are outbid on other lots. I agree that as a bidder, the style is tough. But as a consignor, I really like it and I think it made a huge difference/impact on my set breaks last night.

Some of my favorite, former, cards have already been posted here.

Paul -- that is one of my favorite pieces. I debated whether to consign that. Its an amazing piece. Ultimately, I have nowhere to display it and I have the Patterson team cabinet from 1897, so that went to the auction house. It was the last item I consigned. Enjoy it and congrats.

DJ -- I am glad you got the red crofts Evers. Its where it belongs

Daryl-- another amazing piece. That one took me a long time, and a lot of money (more than what you bought it for) to obtain. I finally gave up the attempt at the back run once I reconciled there were a few front-back combos I would never own. Enjoy -- she is a beater but oh so beautiful.

JC -- I know you didnt win those, but I love the Cy Young pin. There are so few images/items if Cy during the bulk of his career than anything from the dead era between 1888 and 1903 is so special.

Another card that went bezerck was the E90-1 Speaker. I have long felt it was undervalued, but it went to the moon last night.

Tony -- Yes, the Joe Jackson Herp went low too, considering the rare back. That said, the M101-4/5 Jackson has absolutely exploaded over the past year, so I guess its all relative

Damn. With all those cards and at that level of value, to come within 3 percent of your expected target is IMO incredible!!

Those D304s . . . wow. I got two I needed but going in thought I might get a bunch. Today I feel lucky to have gotten what I did. Also was very happy to get the Ju-Ju Drums Wagner and a nice T3 Rucker.

Incredible auction. Congratulations Ryan on your consignments. I have to agree with you on the format. Even though it is a pain for us on the east coast to have to stay up all night there is no question this format gives the buyer much more flexibility to pivot to alternate items when he loses out of his primary target. I would not have gotten the Chase or the Rucker under the item by item close format, and some of my later bids that were topped would never have been placed. Clearly better for you.
