Not the GOAT perhaps, but a key figure in track and field history. 1952 Swedish card of Roger Bannister, earliest I have seen.

That’s a great card, Peter. One I haven’t seen before. Interesting how they blurred out all the other runners. 1950s version of NIL.

Very cool Bannister card.

It is even crazier that Bannister was a chain smoker

Bannister would have whooped me in his old technology compared to modern shoes with my 4:15 PR…

He was a stud!!!

We had an earlier post about Tony Hawk for skateboarding, but many say it's Rodney Mullen. An early card I just picked up on a whim.

Wow is that a great memory! I had that card on my fridge in my college apartment. We always had Big Brother on the coffee table!

I do think in Tennis a couple of people have been overlooked, Laurence Doherty and his brother Reginald. Maybe they it's because they were British or because of the period in which they played. However, their accomplishments were amazing.

Although not a card, I do have this patinated bronze sculpture circa 1900 by a prominent artist Carl Maria Schwerdtner, deceased 1916.

Yes, at 147# [welter]. Leonard was a natural 147#-160#; Duran at his best was 135#-140#. He was beatable at the higher weight classes. At 135# he was perhaps the GOAT (some say Benny Leonard). Mayweather was a smaller guy whose highest weigh title was at 140#. Once Duran realizes that Mwyweather cannot hurt him, he would overwhelm him.

My other main gripe about Mayweather is that he dodged the best at their best. The Pacquiao fight was well past Pac-Man's prime and he was injured to boot. That 50-0 has a lot of not quite peak guys on it.

Tony Schumacher "The Sarge" one of the G.O.A.T. s for NHRA Top Fuel. I met Tony during the Super Nationals at Raceway Park, Englishtown NJ. He was super nice and spent time with others and me while signing autographs. I got the diecast from his trailer at Raceway Park
