Default Brooks Robinson Endorsed Items

Day 91 – 1 April 2024
I really enjoy odd stuff that Brooks endorsed. Today, I am showing you two items. A Palmgard Protective Fielder’s Glove for baseball or softball. It was made in Randallstown, MD. The glove has some type of special gripping material on the index finger and palm. It is size XL. Brooks signed it with his HoF 83 inscription. The backside of the box provides more details. Additionally, I am showing a Markwort Sporting Goods Company, St. LoPine Tar Rag. The Pine Tar Rag has some type of relationship with the Palmgard Glove. I did not have this one signed. Both items were endorsed by Brooksie so they must work. Should I break them open and try them out?

I think George Brett would have been a better spokesperson for the pine tar rag. It’s unbelievable that a “special” rag was marketed for applying pine tar. There is no way my old man would have bought that for me back when I was young and playing baseball!

I agree with both Mark and Scott. I enjoy seeing this stuff my parents would have laughed at me.

Was pleased to pick up this Cal Ripken Sr. game worn road jersey from the 1985 season this past weekend. 1985 was the first year Sr. went to #7 (was originally #47) and jersey is complete with the cigarette pack breast pocket customization:

Default Brooks Robinson - Ajay Sports

Day 92 – 2 April 2024
Like yesterday, another item endorsed by Brooks was a line of products from Ajay Sports (Delavan, Wisconsin). I believe there are other items but I only have the two items shown. The baseball lacing needle was used for replacing the leather material on a glove. You would use the needle to help with replacing the lacing. You can see Brooks facsimile signature at the top. Also shown is a softball scorebook for 52 games along with instructions. Again, you see Brooks’ signature at the top. Does anyone else have other Ajay Sports items?

Default 1970 Dayton Dailey News Brooks Roninson

Day 93 – 3 April 2024
A couple weeks ago I showed you the Baltimore News Post newspaper cards and failed to show the 1970 Dayton Daily News Brooks Robinson Hand Cut bubble gumless card. This example is #154 in the set of over 320 or so cards. The set includes different sports. I am tracking about 206 baseball cards in the set and many have 2 variations with differences on their playing statistics (some are from 1969 and others are from 1970). Technically, this set is from 1970 and 1971. I started this set but don’t plan to finish it as the cards are just do darn hard to find and can be pricey. I have quite a few HoF’ers though (Aaron, Mays, Rose, and Brock). I believe there are as many as 13 Orioles in the set including the stars from the late 1960s and early 1970s (Palmer, Cuellar, Frank, Boog and others to include Brooks). I have Brooks, Davey Johnson and Cuellar on hand. I have a checklist but it is not formal. The Brooks copy is not in the best shape but it rare and 1/1 graded. I was fortunate to add this to the PSA Master Set. I have never seen another but there are others out there. You can see the Brooks card is from 1970 given his 1969 stats are provided.
