Thanks For The Reholder
I won this after being an underbidder when it was in an old holder.

If anyone here happened to win the SC backed Rube Waddell port in REA and would consider trading and I toss in some cash for the Piedmont version, let me know. I had the wrong one on my watch versus bid list.
PM me! My box of random things will be here tomorrow! Thanks, Bob |

I picked up the Cobb Old Mill. Really nice registration on this card:

Very rare card and, to my way of thinking, the nicest looking Stovey card. Stovey is one of the few players ever to score more than one run per game over his career. How McCarthy is in the HOF and he is not I will never figure out.

I had a bid in on it, as I did on plenty of other things. I pretty much got smoked except for these little trade cards. Now I know what set my Striker came from, except mine has $3.00 printed on it. There were several cards I would have loved to have, but I just didn't want to spend the money. Cardflation!!

I won a centered 57 Mantle and a nice Wilt Chamberlain RC on Goldin last night. I've been looking for a centered 57 Mantle for years now. Glad to finally be able to check that one off my list.

I was the underbidder on a couple of the 1800s scorecards in LOTG and lost on the cigarette boxes - that Gypsy Queen box was beautiful. But I did manage to pick up a couple Mayos.

I've wanted to get a nice off-back Young portrait for a bit - saw a couple of Hindus recently and decided this was the right time to jump on this one!

I love it that most of the cards I went after and lost were to NET54 members! I went hard at the Kalamazoo Stoveys (both) but just couldn't make it happen. Congrats to all! Here's a couple of the 5 I won.

I've always been intrigued by the Western Playgrounds, especially after discovering Mark Macrae's article in Old Cardboard #1 a while back.
Thrilled to see that my bid held up in LOTG when I woke up this morning. The auction had some really cool cards. Last edited by asoriano; 03-31-2024 at 06:36 PM. |

I imagine the most likely scenario is that player in the background was moving and mostly blurred out. Since they wanted to use that particular photo of 'The Babe,' they had an artist try to work some magic and solidify the image a bit while 'eliminating' some of his more blurred areas. (He was probably fired the next day. ) baberuthbackgroundguy.jpg

Nice Ruth and Gehrig! I have a much lower grade Ruth which I thought was the only one known. I guess not.

Paid a bit more than I expected to by a few hundred, but given how few have come up for sale I'm not really sure how to evaluate the current market for this card/pose.
I've wanted this specific type of N172 pose for my Cubs notables/stars collection. This fills my need for both a "stooping/fielding" type and a Hugh Duffy player card. Paper loss on the back tanked most of the grade, but that's cool with me on a n172 as long as the front looks decent. |

Came up just short on the 1950-51 Toleteros Josh Gibson (with redemption stamp), so this was my consolation prize.
