This is Walter "Dobie" Moore. Now THIS is a guy you need to know about. Another possible HOFer, he was one of the best Negro League shortstops of the 1920s. His career batting average was .345 in 7 years with the Kansas City Monarchs. His career was cut short when he was shot in the leg by an angry ex-girlfriend and then jumped out of a second story window to keep from getting killed. It worked, he survived, but his playing career was over.
The example from this set is the top left one below. You can really see how incredible the image quality is compared to other examples. This a theme throughout the set. Here's an article you should read about Dobie Moore that was published a week ago on MLB's website: https://www.mlb.com/news/dobie-moore...baseball-great |

Here is Alejandro Oms. He was one of the final 30 Negro Leaguers voted on for the Hall of Fame back in 2006. He didn't quite make it then, but it's certainly possible some day. Alejandro Oms, Oscar Charleston, and Pablo "Champion" Mesa formed the greatest outfield in Cuban League history on the 1923-24 Santa Clara team which they are pictured on in these cards. Oms was a career .336 hitter in 15 seasons in the American Negro Leagues, but he also dominated in his native Cuba, Venezuela, and anywhere else he went. He was a pure hitter. The card in the top left pictured below is the one in this set.

Truly is an amazing set. Never before seen in one spot and an incredible opportunity for someone. So many great cards I would love to have and they all have incredible clarity compared to almost all other copies.
Thanks Chad

I’ve already placed a bid. LMK who’s in and maybe we will make an effort to get it. However there is a reserve on it so don’t know what it would take

Here's Frank Duncan. When people think of the Kansas City Monarchs, they usually think of either Satchel Paige or Buck O'Neil. But the REAL Mr. Monarch was Frank Duncan. He had a 25 year career in the Negro Leagues as a player, with 21 of them on the Monarchs. But he also managed the team for most of the 1940s. SABR has a great biography of him, which you can read here: https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/frank-duncan/
The card in the top left is the one in this set. |
