1800s Etruscan Baseball Pitchers Questions
Hi-
I recently purchased the two pitchers shown below at an antique shop. I did some cursory research and found a great article on them that named the style and gave a lot of details about the pitchers. https://etruscanmajolica.blogspot.co...l-pitcher.html Mine are unmarked and are in a solid color so based on the above article mine were made in the 1890s by the Griffen China Company or the Chester Pottery and not by Etruscan as those would be marked. Does anyone have any additional information to share? Does anyone have an actual Etruscan one as opposed to the solid color ones I show? There are some cool color combinations shown in the article. Mojalica Pitcher
Alan: I have the green colored pitcher like yours. I don't know alot about them beyond what you mentioned, except that the solid color pitchers are more common than the multi-colored pitchers, with the same combination of baseball and soccer, that were produced by the same company. I did see a solid color pitcher that was being sold by an auction house with a pre-auction estimate of $300-500, but no sale price was listed. I bought mine a few years ago from an antique store that was going out of business. They do make for an interesting display, and they are 140 years old!

Good points Joe, thank you. I think the solid color ones are worth around 200 each, but maybe less (or more if two people really have to have one). Luckily, I paid 130 each for mine but I would have paid more if they were priced higher. I really like them regardless of their value although their size and fragility make displaying or storing them a little difficult.
