It was fabricated by the newspaper reporter to push the narrative of Jackson's involvement, which until his death he continually denied and his WS stats also proved his innocence, as did his acquittal.

His story seems to keep reaching more and more wide in time and people excited or hoping to add a playing years example. I must admit the intrigue gets me I like reading anything and everything pre war baseball history.
