Thanks for posting the 1929 Star Player cards...I don't recall having seen the printed backs before. It would have been cool if they had done this for the 1928 issue as well.
The only 1929 baseball subjects that are known (according to the Old Cardboard site) are Babe Ruth, Lou Gehrig and Walter Johnson. Any new baseball (or non-baseball) additions to this set's checklist? Good luck with the auctions. If I were financially situated at a much higher level, there would be that possibility of me going supervolcano on Gehrig and all the rest of them. Quality control being what it was back then….. I think they mixed up the nickname for Walter Johnson with Smokey Joe Wood!!!! Johnson had other nicknames most notably The Big Train but I couldn’t find anything where anyone ever called him Smoky Joe.

I hope that collectors focus on the Gehrig card and overlook the WaJo card!

Ryan - Further enhancing the Gehrig is that particular batting illustration is a 1923 rookie image - beyond cool! (PSA’s photo expert has confirmed this).

LOL, they forgot to mention that Lou Gehrig was also known in certain circles as... "The Babe". ![]() |
