Thanks guys.
I wasn't 100% sure about the Brooklyn pennant but I've not seen one before and couldn't find it anywhere so when I saw it in an auction I took a chance. Glad to see it paid off.

Not really happy with how it was shipped but nonetheless, this beauty arrived today. I am not a Dodger fan per se, but you can’t go wrong with a vintage pennant that pictures the Dodger’s bum! I think that the creases will probably iron out.
The pennant guide says it’s very rare and it’s from when the Dodgers arrived in LA in 1958. |

Can’t believe they would ship it like that, but excellent pickup none the less. It’s a classic early LA Dodgers pennant, and their best one post-Brooklyn IMHO.
Just use a steam iron on medium-high heat from the reverse side only. Keep the iron moving, and not in one place for too long. Place the pennant face-down on a smooth clean surface prior to ironing… preferably plain white or beige, to ensure no color migration. The creases should come out just fine, but remember to apply just a little iron contact at a time, just to be safe. Best of luck, and please show us the “before and after”.

The only way that's acceptable is if that's the way the seller found them, otherwise it's a travesty. I would guess those are "old creases." They look like that to my eyes, if that makes any sense, and I have a hard time imagining any seller pressing hard to fold a stiff pennant like that just to fit it into in a mailer. That would be stupid beyond belief. But, as we know, anything's possible.

I would follow Marc's recommendation and gently iron them out. I tend to put a cloth between the iron and the pennant for extra safety.
Here's a Dodgers WS pennant that arrived to me folded to hell like yours. A gentle steam ironing and voila.

In the shipper’s defense, they did take full responsibility for the way that it was packaged and told me that they have a disabled staff member who has been assisting them, and apparently didn’t understand the nature of it being a collectible and valuable item. They are looking at refunding me a portion of my purchase price. Last edited by Vintagedeputy; 09-09-2023 at 10:23 AM. |
