You know a card is truly rare when you can't find an image of it online.
I recently was reviewing the checklist for the 1912 zeenut set, and I realized there were 3 cards of players, who were catchers, which I don't recall ever seeing an image of anywhere. Clarence Brooks (LA) Ralph Kreitz John L. Sullivan Anyone have images of any of these players? Lets see lists of other cards that fit this criteria. I think Bressler exists, but I'm not completely convinced that Lajoie does. Here's a thread I ping periodically: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=250083 |

Don't see this card very often. It's not mine, but I randomly have an image of it saved. It's an unaltered black and white e93 Cobb. Sorry for the blurry image, it's the only image I have ever seen of this card.

Not too exciting but this is from the BST recently. I haven't seen too many B18s with this kind of overspray. I always like weird stuff LOL....

It is mislabeled and the back is badly damaged, but I believe there is only one copy of this pose on any of the pop reports. I've never seen another!

Fascinating thread. Amazing cards.
How about this one? "The first black athlete depicted on a sports card, trading card or tobacco card, Hart appears in Thomas H. Hall’s Between the Acts & Bravo Cigarettes set (1880, N344), along with nine other pedestrians and two oarsmen." His Wikipedia entry details how Hart played baseball in the early 1880s. ![]() |

As far as the Pinkerton Postcards go I found a thread here last night from a year ago saying that if the backs are gray or white then they are copies but if they are creamy white then they are originals. Also there is some distinction between made in the us and printed in the us?
I think that the backs on my look more creamy than white is because they had been in a photo album or on somebodies wall for decades. So not 1913 but possibly post WW2 copies? And is there any insight to these other cards that anyone can give me? I am looking on sending them all off to a private auction house. Thanks in advance |

Ryan, Leon, etc...Seeing your (amazing) PCs, Cabinets, Cards from the 1800's reminds me of the famous quote from Ken Burns' Baseball documentary...
"In our sun-down perambulations, of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing "base", a certain game of ball...Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms...the game of ball is glorious." -Walt Whitman, from the 23 July 1846 edition of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle Last edited by MVSNYC; 02-04-2024 at 07:41 AM. |
