Being an old fart who lives in VA, I can't manage to stay awake until the LOTG auctions close. At the very least, I wish Al would change the overtime bidding that begins at 1 a.m. ET to have the lots that remain open close individually.

Was anyone here bidding on the Oscar Charleston?
Even the opening bid was far too rich for my blood. But, it's a very cool card. I was the underbidder on the Aguilitas Charleston that popped up at REA (that was mentioned in the description for this one) when it was raw in a collection. If I had any idea it'd sell for what it sold for at REA, I would've bit the bullet and bid more. Also, I'm kind of surprised there was no action on that 1879 contract. I would've thought 3k seemed like a solid value for an opening price. Last edited by Prof; 08-21-2023 at 08:00 AM. |

I always love the variety of Cubs stuff I can get at a LOTG auction. Once it became clear that W600 Evers was going way out of my price range, I was able to go after the smaller stuff.

Stephen's experience is one benefit of keeping all lots open (at least up to a point). It allows you to divert some funds once it becomes clear you aren't winning a high-ticket item. That being said, I second Val's comment. I don't mind the 9-12 "lots are open if you have already bid on that lot" rule or the 12-1 "if no bid is received on a lot it will close at 1" rule.
But after that, I don't think a 15-minute period covering the whole auction is needed. I think you could go right to a lot-by-lot closing.

But I kind of wish HA had ended their auction earlier before I succumbed to the temptation of bidding on Ernie Banks's wedding ring lol.
