I’m not seeing it.
I just don’t see any collector that would care. I suppose it would be interesting, and a real oddity, but that’s about it.

I would agree with modern stuff. But would a pre-war set be considered rare and might carry a premium?

As a set collector, it is hard for me to imagine anyone caring about the card cert #s being sequential, which would only mean that they were graded on the same order. I probably wouldn't notice if they were.

As mentioned, the only way to get them numbered sequentially is to submit them all together to be graded in a single submission. I just don’t see any collector caring about that.
I will also add that for a set of any size, especially if it’s a high grade set, it’s just not possible to pull it off. Not only that, but the cert numbers are only relevant to the extent that they tell you something about when a piece was graded. But having them graded sequentially doesn’t add anything that a collector would really care about. Is the 1952 topps complete set in PSA 7 worth less simply because the certs aren’t sequentially numbered? Or worth more because they are? I just don’t see anyone who would ever care. I suppose the owner of such a set could attempt to sell it for a premium, claiming it as something special that deserves an extra premium. But I have a hard time seeing anyone who would be willing to pay extra for it. I’m guessing it would be received about as well as the fellow running around with photos with a very tenuous passing resemblance to baseball players, and trying to sell them for outrageous prices.

Thanks for the help. I had a feeling it didn't matter.

hold on...
Sequential numbers would suggest the cards were submitted together. And that suggests that they were part of someone's collection. If the cards were from what's considered a defined set, and the numbers went straight through from the beginning of the set to the end, then it seems that would have a bit of cool factor associated with it. To get that done, a submitter would want to be sure that each of the cards would grade, and that the idiot graders would grade and generate the certificate numbers in order... let them know what you're trying to accomplish. 1948 Bowman would be a small enough 'set' to do get them graded sequentially, ditto for W511... T206 would be a Monster... 1911 ZeeNuts a Bear to get done. |
