Default Gil Hodges Howard Clothes Premium Photo

Got this beautiful Howard Clothes Premium Photo today. Shows Gil Hodges with some Baseball and football action shots as the background. The back is blank aside from some age tone spots and creases.

Howard Clothes Had a huge facility in Brooklyn and Advertised with the local new York teams in programs and the like.

Has anyone seen another one of these before? Gil or another player?

Thanks!

Have not. Very very cool.

In my book Gil was an extraordinary player and a better man.

Cool pic. Maybe there's a Snider? I have these two records that Howard Clothes gave out.

Thanks Steve! I thought so too when I saw it for sale.

I've been reading up and even joined a Facebook fan group for Gil. There are a ton of loyal fans of Hodges who also say the same.

I have not. I always meant to play them and record to mp3 but honestly kinda forgot about it. It's on my todo list.

Default Hodges Howard Clothes

I have seen both the Hodges and Roy Campanella . Both with 2 different sleeves: one for Howard Clothes and one generic with no advertising. Both are quite difficult to find. The Roe sold by ITP was the only one I had seen.

The Campy uses the same photography as the 1953 H&O Oatmeal set.

Just to show size in case anyone is curious, the Howard Clothes records are 7" and the H-O Oatmeal are 5".

I really like how the front graphics aren't cropped as much as the H-O ones. You basically see the full photo minus some of the edges vs just the player essentially.

Also, I just noticed the front of the Snider and the front of the Campanella are a split second off. They are not the same photos used for both. You can tell the difference looking at Dukes Teeth in both. And you can tell with campy by looking where his left sleeve meets the glove. Or the graphic on the front of his shirt shows the difference as well.

Default Gil Hodges Howard Clothes Premium Photo

Ive spent hours trying to find Gil Hodges Connections with Howard clothes. I know for an absolute fact this is a premium photo given out by the company and not a press photo, blank back and all, taken in Howards studio by the company themselves. I've been scouring old newspaper sites. Unfortunately to no avail on the photo. However for the folks with the records I did find a really good article dating them.

They were given out for free when Howard Clothes opened their store in buffalo. Article dated Tuesday, March 30, 1954.

Furthering my case that the premium was very likely a free promo as well.

Just Got this one for my snapshot collection. Don't think it has any ties to Howard Clothes, looks like the sign says Crawford. So assumingly taken in a NYC Clothier Called Crawford. Probably predates the Howard piece by a few years, But thought it was a really cool companion piece nonetheless.

Well this was a fun find. Gil Must've been well known for his suits. Because I just found this ad in a 1951 paper. No Doubt goes with the snap above. I wonder how many people really got their suit signed?

That's now 2 Department stores that had Gil as Their Big Leaguer in a Suit
