Thanks! I only had a split second to make the decision to buy and I'm glad that I did. Can't wait to get it.

Hi Mike,
Great Seals pin. In all my years I haven't stumbled upon the 1 1/4" one. |

Thanks Andy. I don’t think I’ve seen the 1.75 inch version before.

Screen shot from another online auction buy tonight. Haven’t seen this one before. Although it’s only from 1993, I thought it was unique being individually numbered out of 25,000.

Completed HOF Warren Spahn framed project with PM10 pinback
I thought I would circle back now that I completed my Warren Spahn framed project.
This piece incorporated the following items that I have collected over the years to create something that I will enjoy all the time: My favorite action photo of Spahn that actually graced a Sports Illustrated cover in color at one point. The circa-1958 large PM10 pinback thought to have possibly only been sold at the 1958 World Series. An actual ticket stub from Warren Spahn's 2nd career no-hitter in 1961. A super tough ticket to find, IMHO. Spahn hurled this masterpiece after he turned 40. A stadium giveaway card that was given to fans that attended Spahn's 2nd no-hitter. Bonus points for someone having Spahn sign the card at some point. Very cool! Finally, artwork from artist Hollreiser, who is famous for producing "This Day in Baseball" cartoons in the NY Daily Post and others during the 1960's and 1970's. This also pertains to Spahnie's 2nd no-hitter game. Enjoy! |

Beautiful display, Scott... the quintessential photo of Spahnie and that Pin is such a tough one.
A question... In the portion below the photo, how did you adhere those items to the backing? I always wonder how to properly do this, to avoid compromising the items themselves.

Thank you! Good question. My framer uses archival techniques, but I don't honestly know. I will ask him and circle back with an answer |

Been looking at this Willie Mays pinback for a year now in an antique store, and finally got the dealer down to an acceptable price.

Nice pickup. The Phillies had several in this style. If you find the one dated 1950 you’ve hit the jackpot. Very scarce.

Decided to drive out today to a place where I know of three antique stores, including one very large one. I got about 30% through the very large one and had to go get some lunch.
On the way to get lunch I spotted a little antique store in a strip mall that I had never been in before. Walked in and first spotted a 1958 San Francisco Giants program but then I saw this facedown in a change dish. Imagine my surprise when I flipped it over!! |

Checking in with my award-winning framer John, he sparingly uses wheat starch paste (likely available at Michael's), the water-soluble adhesive, that he uses to adhere paper items to an archival backing. The way he describes his method is this: Start with a small glob of wheat starch paste that he places on a separate piece of paper. Literally use the head of a needle to add a microdot of wheat starch paste to all four corners of whatever paper item you plan on attaching to the acid-free backer in the framed piece. Thanks! Me too. When I spotted it laying face down, I could see the orange edge and thought surely this must be some junk pinback button. Why would it be laying face down in a display case? I stood there in shock for a moment.
Side note - The dates on it are for Oct. 8, 9, and 10, but the O's wrapped up the series on Oct. 9. I imagine that these were only sold at the stadium starting Oct. 8, and that they weren't available after Oct. 9. I guess that is what accounts for the rarity of it. |

Is this pin vintage or a repro?
The scratches and light staining on the front seems to say yes but the clean back is giving me pause. It measures 3.5" in diameter.

Just your standard, run of the mill antique show? I’m not sure you’d see an assortment that good at the National!

Today’s pick ups…
The Musial was a gift from my mom who found it at the large antique show in Northern Virginia today. The USC Rose Bowl pin and the McDonalds NBA Hoops pin were super inexpensive finds from a local antique store today. |

Quick pickup from the National.... I had not seen this Pirates Pinback before, and was hoping it might be somewhat scarce (I didn't pay a lot, so won't be too disappointed if it's common). I don't see any examples on ebay, which may be a good sign.
Questions for the Pin Gurus.... 1. Is this a pretty rare one? 2. How old is it ... Late 40s? Early 50s? It's an uncommon image of the Pirates Mascot, that I hadn't seen. Thanks in advance for any help with this one.

I always thought that shiny safety pin style back was first used in the early 1970s.

I stopped into an online auction to see if they had any sports memorabilia (they didn’t), but I got a message from someone in the auction who had these 1956 Topps pins. Some are a little less than perfect, but the price was right so I grabbed them.
I have two of Al Smith, so if someone would like to do a trade of a comparable pin, feel free to reach out. |
