Thanks! It's been really quiet for some time as far as new pickups, but excited about this one, and just acquired a collection of 150 lineup cards from the mid 80's (most from 1984), and spent the weekend sorting through and researching and found a few cool ones.

Picked up a collection of 150 lineup cards that were from Eric Gregg and it had this gem.
Orel Hershiser's MLB debut. Personally, I think Hershiser deserves more consideration for the Hall. He's obviously a borderline candidate, but 200+ wins, Cy Young, great Playoff pitcher (win the MVP of the NLCS and WS in 1988, was 8-3 for his career in the Playoffs and that was only because he was 0-2 in the 1997 WS). Throw in his record-setting scoreless streak, and I think he's a candidate worthy of more consideration. Edit: No idea why the photo is sideways. Hershiser came in in relief and it is his name in black under Honeycutt. Last edited by Topnotchsy; 07-13-2023 at 08:59 PM. |

Thanks to Jeff for this special/cool Lineup card from the 3rd game of 1996 (Jeter's rookie campaign and Mo's first appearance of the season). Originating from the umpire John Hirschbeck's personal collection.

For reasons not obvious to me, Yankee lineup cards from their most recent dynasty are exceedingly difficult to find. It seems clear that the lineup cards that Joe Torre from when he was a Yankee have not entered the market. Whether that is because he would toss them or because he still has them (or has given them to someone who does), they have been extremely difficult, and almost all the ones I have were from John Hirschbeck's personal collection. Enjoy the lineup card. Jeter's 10th career run, and one of the first games of his career in his ROY season, and of course, the first Yankee WS win in a long time. |

This lineup card style is pretty uncommon to see. From what I have seen over the years, I don't think many teams bothered with a lineup card for the official scorer, although the Padres were not the only one (the Orioles actually had a lineup card carbon pad with 4 sheets vs what most teams had with 3 for a period of time) with the back copy for the official scorer.
IMO Gaylord Perry is one of the most underrated pitchers in baseball history. Here is the game where he passed Bob Feller to move into 2nd all-time in K's. He would subsequently be by quite a few including Nolan Ryan, Steve Carlton, Randy Johnson etc but pitching in an era where K's were far less common, Perry was dominant. |

To the best of my knowledge, no lineup cards exist from the Negro Leagues. I don't know if they did not use lineup cards the way the American & National Leagues did, or if they simply were not saved. Whatever the case is, I have been collecting lineup cards for many years and have never seen even a photo of one.
Because of this, I have pretty much given up hope of ever getting a lineup card from player's who played in the Negro Leagues, outside of those who spent time in the Majors. (I have lineup cards with Aaron, Mays, Campanella, Robinson, Newcombe, Banks etc, but assumed that most others were off limits). Over the years though, I have occasionally been able to find lineup cards from the Pacific Coast League (PCL) and in a number of cases they featured former Negro League Players. Some (like Minnie Minoso) later played in the Majors, but others did not. Recently I was able to acquire this September 8, 1951 lineup card from the Minneapolis Millers. While the card does not feature Willie Mays, who played for the team, but was already with the NY Giants, it does include Negro League HOF Ray Dandridge, who had 3 hits in the game, and former Negro League Champion NY Cuban Dave Barnhill. |
