You should be able to get a nice Greenberg Diamonds Stars for that. That would be my choice. A visually stunning and widely collected issue and Greenberg is arguably the biggest star in the set. With a little shopping you should be able to find one with good eye appeal in the $1000 range.

Default t206

Im thinking maybe I'll save and wait to try to get a low grade t206 cobb? Really like those and have been sticking with collecting with t206's. I was thinking that or a card of a hard to find hall of famer would be cool? Any ideas for that? Like someone without a ton of cards from their playing days.

Negro Leaguers with Cuban issues or some of the gap guys like Sisler or Ross Youngs would be your choices there. There were just a handful of MLB players who came up after the T206s and retired before the Goudey issue that are fairly hard to find.

Heilmann has relatively few cards and I think you could get a very nice one in your budget.

1952 Berk Ross Jackie Robinson Card I know it is not pre-war but it is close and it is an iconic player which as a player and as a set has been under appreciated

A Lajoie with bat T206 is also a nice card within budget for a low grade with eye appeal.

+1
T206 Lajoie / bat
T206 Johnson / hands at chest
T206 Matty / white or dark cap

My votes for best cards + amazing poses under a grand.
