I wonder what the William Howard Taft ball, which inaugurated the tradition of the presidential opening toss in 1910, would go for today? Or the Walter Johnson collection of signed baseballs by Presidents Taft, Wilson, Harding, Coolidge, and Hoover from opening games in D.C. in which Johnson was a participant. Here's the incredible saga of that collection as I wrote it up for the Washington Post Magazine in 2004:

Hank, having a Washington Post subscriber ever since the demise of the Evening Star, my very pathetic memory vaguely recalls reading your tremendously interesting piece back in 2004, and I greatly enjoyed re-reading it just now.
