For those of you who have been following our journey through the 1953 Bowman Color Baseball card set, this card marks the end of the low numbers; beginning tomorrow, high numbers 113-160 are spotlighted.
Some years ago, Dean Hanley, founder and owner of Dean's Cards, authored the book "The Bubble Gum Card War: The Great Bowman & Topps Sets from 1948 to 1955." In his analysis of the 1953 Bowman Color Baseball card set, Hanley observed that cards in the high numbers were no more difficult to obtain than cards from numbers 1-112 based on his store's continual inventory. I suppose if someone wanted to assemble our featured set in one day, regardless of any card's condition and or price, it would be an attainable goal. However, taking into consideration the condition of the available high-number cards 113-160, there is greater difficulty in acquiring the high numbers due to the lack of quality control with centering being the main problem. Do you find this to be true? #112 Toby Atwell |
