I live the majority of the year outside of the US for the past 25+ years. I have to be careful writing my dates when I am in the US to avoid confusion. The format DD/MM/YY is done in most places of the world with the idea from smallest to largest.

That and all reservation calendars for hotels and airlines overseas use Monday as the first day of the week. Since we consider Monday to be the beginning of the week it makes sense. You have to pay attention to the days and dates when making reservations.
