The one game managerial career of Elrod Hendricks was on May 18, but he signed this card the next day when Frank Robinson is credited with being the manager.

The last of the 8 games that Duffy Dyer managed, and his only one with the A's, also the first career win for Jose Bautista.

Very cool! I find replacement managers as a fascinating niche with lineup cards. I have a few games with similar situations.

Doug...my memory was telling me that Hendricks managed a handful of games in '88 while Frank Robinson was hospitalized with back problems.

I checked the Orioles '89 Media Guide and saw that Elrod twice substituted for Frank that season...4 games from May 18-20 (where yours fits in) and again from July 15-28.

In June 1985, after Joe Altobelli was dismissed and Earl was re-hired, Cal Ripken Sr. was "interim" manager for one game (which he was credited for) while Earl made his way north to meet the club.

So this was technically Sr.'s MLB managerial debut:

Aha, that makes sense. Retrosheet doesn't list any of those other games.

Hey Bill,

Your Orioles lineup card collection is super impressive! How many do you have? Did you mostly pick these up one at a time, or acquire a large collection at some point?
