Thanks Clint. I’ve always thought the Tigers version of this piece was one of the coolest figural pieces. This is the only Pirates version I’ve ever seen also. Makes me hope there are other teams floating around out there somewhere.

My favorite pickup this year was the advertising poster for the debut of Sports Illustrated.

Yep.... and often it's helped to fund other great stuff. But definitely not the case with that Pirates Ash tray.... I think I netted about $90 for it in a Bricol Auction (whoopie!) Anyone here remember Bricol?

It's dated 1939 on the bottom by the original owner i'm assuming. That puts it about 10 years older than I would have guessed. Hopefully in 2023 I'll come across the Tigers version and can post in next years favorite pickup thread. |

I believe I recall reading (in an old thread right here on net54) that the Tigers piece was created by a Detroit-based "artist" who was also a Tigers fan. So perhaps the Pirates Ashtray is a one-off that the artist specially created for a friend or client from Pittsburgh. To me, these scarce "mystery pieces" are among the coolest things in the hobby. Simply wonderful items all around so far...congrats to the happy owners!
But, given the way I lean, I must say that I absolutely love Clint's Topeka Cabinet Card and the collection of 1860s/70's Silks that Gary recently picked up and posted. Would love to see more of this past years 19th C. pick-ups! Happy Holidays All! Jonathan www.dugouttreasures.com Last edited by jpop43; 12-21-2022 at 07:05 PM. Reason: addition |
