I love the idea of learning more about Bowmans from 1950 to 1953, which are in my estimation the most attractive of all baseball cards. Over that four-year span, Bowman basically created two very different styles of cards — one that required an artist to paint a black and white photo, and the other that required a photographer to capture a player posing in color. I've long wondered who painted those many hundreds of baseball and football photos from the 1950-52 sets, and who snapped those color photos in the '53 baseball set. In the latter, it appears the photographer knew many of the players — everybody seems happy and relaxed, as if there was pretty woman standing there and flirting with them.
