It's been a relatively quiet few months, but I was able to acquire two significant pieces in the last couple of weeks.
This is probably the bigger of the two. Opening Day 1982. Ripken would go on to win Rookie of the Year. And while he had played a few games in 1981, this game featured a number of 1sts: First career multi-hit game (he had 3 hits), 1st career RBI, 1st career extra basehit, 1st career double and 1st career career homerun. The last one is obviously of the most note. Ripken would go on to set the record for most homeruns by a shortstop.
