No need to apologize in my book. It’s on eBay for godssake. This is not state secrets we are talking about. A few people who thought an eBay auction was somehow a deep state secret need to get over themselves.
QUOTE=NiceDocter;2259146]My apologies to anyone who I inadvertently caused a problem with this auction. I thought since it had so many views and bids already plus the sellers stated in their description that they had numerous calls and emails to end the auction early that this was no secret. Maybe it would be best to just wait until the dust settles after the final bidding before bringing something like this on a post again. Again I meant no harm but will do it differently in the future. I’m pretty sure that this was going to go wherever it ends up with or without this thread but we will never know.[/QUOTE] |

I would have to whole heartedly agree with Steve on this. If you are doing a daily search on ebay and have 'Babe Ruth' or 'Ruth' as your search parameters under sports cards you would most likely see this card. I know that most people search using 'newly listed' as part of their search. If you do that you generally know the last items you saw and at what time of day. Anything that looks odd in the image next to the title you are probably going to open the listing.

If you search by highest price "Babe Ruth" on ebay, this comes up first and it is funny as hell they're charging $6 for shipping.

They’re mailing it book/periodical rate. Which means it’ll get to then authenticator in 4-6 weeks ![]() It’s nearing $34,000 and I like how he wrote that the rest of the cards are not included in the deal. Meanwhile, The rest of the things he’s auctioning off will get him under $1000. I bet the seller is going to wake up in shock this morning. What was interesting The opening bid was $9.99 ( disclosure I put a bid in when it was still at double figures). Meanwhile this guy’s not getting any bites : https://www.ebay.com/itm/385093138192 I guess the adage is true, as a seller you should open bids at low numbers to get more eyeballs ![]() Last edited by EddieP; 09-01-2022 at 02:16 AM. |

Letting the community know about a card they might be interested in is seen as a "bad thing" here? lol

I have mixed feelings on this one. I am sure that outing it here made more people aware but how many of those were actual players at 48K?
The seller should have done their homework to figure out what it was before listing but does that mean he/she should have the card sell for $1,254.67 because it was not listed with the right title? In the end, I think the card still sold for less than it was worth based on recent sales. The buyer did well so did the seller but had he gotten the card graded he likely could have put more money in his pocket. And for all you CSG haters guess what???? Andy Broome with be doing the AG on this one!

Wow...last second jump to $49K. Is this a case of timing and luck, or is that really a $50K card in almost any auction?

$48,998.88! So thrilled for Maine, the seller, and the buyer!
I spoke by phone with the seller a few mins before the auction just closed this am, and they really had no idea what it was or it's value-thought it was a candy card of some potential value. |

I'm guessing they are going for a drive. Unless the buyer is on the West Coast. |
