The guys I learned from said that nearly any card with a crease should be no better than G. The exception would be a card that was in really great condition otherwise.

Here's what they said in 1982 in The Sport Americana Football, Basketball, and Boxing Card Price Guide #2 by Beckett and Eckes...


"Very Good (VG) - A card that has been handled but not abused. Some rounding at all corners, slight layering, or scuffing at 1 or 2 corners, slight notching on edges, gloss lost from the surface but not scuffed, borders might be somewhat uneven but some white is visible on all borders, noticeable yellowing or browning of borders, pictures may be slightly out of focus."

It's interesting that they didn't use the word 'crease'. I guess "scuffing" meant creasing. I think of scuffing as paper-loss. It seems a small corner crease was okay, but not a crease across the card, which is how I remember it.

BTW they have the T220 Gans valued at $3.25 in vg/e with no premium for silver borders.

That's about what I consider VG. Handled but not abused, some wear and tear but nothing serious and it presents fine. A minor corner crease or wrinkle is fine, maybe even a larger crease if the card presents EX-MT otherwise. A full crease is a 2 or 2.5.

I wish these were still $3.25...
