When this news hits the board there should be wild pandemonium to say the least.

Right, but they still can't/won't grade S74 silks, Fro-Joy cards................and so on!

I'll never understand their popularity.
"Let's design a generic figure! Here, I'll put some hair on it. Now it's Betty White! ... Wait, let me put a light saber with it! Now, it's a Star Wars! Yaaay!" Ugh. Beanie Babies make more sense. But yes, I know the drill. Lots of people look at our hobby the same way. I don't understand how this one has any crossover appeal, but millions of dollars in spent money say otherwise. |

Remind me a little of those paintings that were popular in the 70s of the little girls with the big massive eyes. Trying to be so odd looking that some people find them curiously cute. Weird dolls too. Seems like always a market for weird.

It is likely a different department that has little to no interaction with cards. The two line of business's backlog wouldn't affect each other.

Kind of like the myriad of things "marketed " as a collectible, which never take off since everyone wants to save them to cash in.

If they made the original Hartland statues all with the same body, same pose and same face, but just changed the uniform, it would be the equivalent of Funko Pops. I actually liked Funko’s earlier pop-culture bobble heads, because they exhibited some creativity, artistry and imagination. But now it seems quality of workmanship has devolved rather than advanced. This is the era of “The Emperor’s New Clothes” and catering to the lowest common denominator. Last edited by perezfan; 07-26-2022 at 06:49 PM. |

That was originally. Now they are grading the figures/boxes.
We’re excited to announce the launch of PSA Funko POP! authentication, grading, and encapsulation! Even more exciting? We’re partnering with "POPS! For Patients" to help kids in hospitals around the country get their own POP! The Funko POPS! you submit will help us donate to this great cause. So, what does this mean? If you have a Funko POP!, we’re ready to grade it and encapsulate it. If your POP! has an autograph, we’ll authenticate that too. We’ll be starting this service in Fall 2022. More importantly, we’re letting you know ahead of time so you can collect your POPS! from some of your favorite summer expos, marketplaces, or wherever you shop so they’ll be ready to send to us. How our Funko POP! grading will work: Our team of graders will receive your POP! and verify it’s genuine and authentic. It’ll then move to grading, where we will analyze the quality and condition of the POP! box and assign it a score from 1 to 10, with 0.5 intervals as needed (except 9.5, like our cards). Then we encapsulate your POP! in a UV-resistant, tamper-evident case that shows off its certification details such as exclusivity, variant and year. I thought you already graded Funko POPS? Since March 2021, we’ve been authenticating the autograph on a POP!, but not the POP! itself. The big change is that now we will examine the POP!, authenticate it and assign it a numerical grade. Then we will encapsulate it and send it back to you. We’ll be sending out more information as the day gets closer. In the meantime, keep an eye on your inbox and reach out to us at info@PSAcard.com for more details! |
