.
Scott,
Agreed that Jim Tobin is tougher; most especially on a 3x5 or GPC.
I considered him the fourth or fifth toughest to locate of 1945 Detroit Tigers ball players (Hack Miller, Joe Hoover, Prince Oana, Jim Tobin, George Caster, …).

Don’t be fooled by all of the signed Joe Hoover items out now. Nearly all of those were mine, and accumulated over 25-30 years of collecting. Most came from an estate.

It has been fun.

For a guy who died young nearly 70 years ago, Caster is surprisingly easy to procure. Not sure how to explain it, but there are a handful of 1930's players who all passed away as fairly young men in 1955, all of whom were prolific signers for how easily they have been found over the years:

George Caster
Frankie Hayes
Johnny Stone
Lynn Nelson
Clint Brown

I first noticed this strange phenomenon many years ago. I may even be forgetting a name on that list. Availability of some of them may wane just a little bit, but then bounce back later on, but all can always be found without much effort. Stone may be slightly harder to find than the others, but he's still not difficult. Now, if you want something nice a opposed to a standard cut or multi-signed album page, that's a different story.

Vincent,
Thanks for recently offering up some of these challenging names to the hobby!
I totally agree about Tobin.
FYI, I do have a really nice signed GPC and index card, but this fountain pen early beauty really caught my eye.
