I have been going thru my graded cards the last few days, I want to sell some of the modern cards so I can have more money for vintage. Anyway I was reading the back of card #382 Ted Bowsfield and noticed an error in the cartoon caption on the bottom right corner. It says "Ted starred in Hockey, SOCKER and tennis." Has any reference book listed this error? And is there any value? I understand my card (Sgc graded a 3), but still interesting to see this. Thanks for any help.

the only thing that may add value is if this mistake was eventually corrected in subsequent printings.

What would be the easiest way to do this?

All 18 for sale on COMC right now are "Socker"; since it's never been found yet, I figured it's an Uncorrected Error unless one turns up.

I checked the SCD/Lemke Standard Catalog and since they make no mention of it being corrected, it most likely wasn't

It reminds me of the infamous and uncorrected 1973 Topps Tony Oliva, where they left "Minnesota" misspelled on front for eternity...

My favorite of these uncorrected Topps errors is the 1964 Rookie Stars of I-Forget-Who that says something like "this 17 year old fireballer is only 18 years old!"

Topps 1967 check out George Korince on cards 72 and 526. Instead of correcting an error on the same card they just created a new card for the “can’t miss prospect”. They did that instead of issuing a card of Dick Ellsworth without Ken Hubbs picture

I know this is not a mistake or error but it always makes me laugh.
Topps probably looks at many scouting reports to choose top prospect for their rookie cards. On this one, Archie had already left baseball to become a teacher! Mike img06122022_045 (2).jpg img06122022_046 (2).jpg |
