Default Ike DeLock

I just heard from Bill Haelig that former Orioles pitcher Ike DeLock passed away at age 92. DeLock had a nice 11 year major league career, almost all with the Boston Red Sox.

He did have a brief stint with the Orioles from June 9 - July 19, 1963, appearing in 7 games. Because of his brief time with the Orioles, I'm not aware of any team issued photos or postcards of him. That makes anything of DeLock in an Orioles uniform very hard to find.

I have found two photos of him and both look like they were taken the same day.

Bill,

Very very nice.

Just got back from watching spring training practice at Ed Smith Stadium. AA & AAA players, but nice to see some baseball again. Adley Rutschman looking good.

Default Brooks Bobbleheads, Statues, and Figurines

Greetings. Picked up a few new bobbles so thought to post. I shared on the Brooks FB page but figured a few of you are not on there. I think i have 33 different ones. I forgot to include 2011 Gold Glove statue. A few folks sent me a list of ones i am missing (a couple bears, different colored Hartland, different version of the Arbys, different version of the Bank Atlantic, taller version of the HoF bobble with black hat and bat down). There are a few others out there i am missing. I am sure there are a few here some of you have not seen. If you are aware of any others missing, let us know. Enjoy.

Default Orioles / All Star Pennants

Good evening. I posted this one on a Pennant group on FB but thought to share here. Below are my Orioles pennants. Mostly, focused on Brooks days but you will find a few earlier, a few from 1979 and 1983. I am missing one of the Pennants with the picture. 1973 eludes me. Also, i am collecting the All Star pennants featuring Brooks' name. I believe he appeared for the first time on a pennant in 1962. He is on 1962-1974. Shown on far left is 1965, 66, 70, 71 and 72. If anyone has a All Star Pennant not shown or a 1973 Pennant with the picture, let me know. I am no pennant expert so show any you have that are missing.

Default Pictures and Posters Orioles

Good evening. Another post. Thought to share some recent finds.

The grand slam cardboard poster was published the year after McNalley's WS GS. It is not perfect and has the writing on the bottom but will look good framed. On the backside, the Oakland As hand wrote the lockerroom plan on it.

I am told the "Charge" poster is from 1966. It is a paper poster. I plan to frame it. I just love the "National Beer" advertisement and purple.

The "leap" autograph BW picture came from a long term Oriole employee. I had it authenticated. It is 8.5 x 11. Would love to had this in "orange" sharpie...I guess i settled. By far, this is one of my favorite pictures.

The final picture is a bit larger and on a "board" featuring the Ripken's with autos. It came from the same estate mentioned above. I plan to frame this one, too.

Hope you enjoy. Show your favorites.

Default Oriole Advocates Mort Tadder photo

Good morning,

Many Mort Tadder photos/postcards have been posted here before but I don't think this one has yet.

It was created by the Oriole Advocates to celebrate Brooks' election to the HOF in 1983.

I've never seen one of those before....It's very cool...Over the years the Orioles would print various different ones that I believe were given to groups to display at their place of work, church, etc. to encourage people to sign up

I know I've shown it before but here is the dugout lineup card from that historic game (this is also the game that Brooks made his iconic catch off the bat of Johnny Bench):

'Nice pick ups Charlie…. I taught photography for 32 years…. How did they not crop out that photographer in the background of the Ripken photo is beyond me !
Scott'

I've owned one of these signed prints for years and to be honest I never really noticed the guy on the right before lol.

Anyways I know the photographer that took this picture and I reached out to him to see if he knew who that guy was...He told me it was taken on Family Day in '87 and there were a lot of people on the field that day & most likely this was someone related to one of the players...

Bill, the line up card is amazing. That series was by far my favorite. Can’t get any better than Brooks and McNally. Thanks for sharing!

Default Pete Ward

Good afternoon,

I just saw the news that Pete Ward passed away.

After playing 8 games for the O's in 1962, he was part of the trade that brought Luis Aparicio to Baltimore (may have been tough coming up in the Baltimore system as a third baseman at the time, obviously the Orioles tried him in the outfield).

He was also extremely friendly both times I met him.

RIP

Mike,

Thanks for sharing. Pete is another one of those guys who had a nice major league career, but is hard to find in an Orioles uniform.

In yet another former Oriole player passing, I learned this afternoon that former Orioles LHP Bill Short (1962, 1966) passed away in early February:

now that we're (fortunately) well into Spring Training, I thought I'd share this 1987 Spring Training Roster/Schedule brochure with a nice autograph of Cal Ripken Jr. on it:

Default All Star Pennants Featuring Brooks Robinson

Good evening! Found another pennant this weekend featuring Brooks as an All Star. The 1962 Pennant at top is the latest "find." I have a total of 6 now. My research says there are 13 with his name on it between 1962 - 1974. I am not seeing his name on 1960 and 1961, which included 2 games each year. 1962 had two games as well but am only seeing Brooks on 1 pennant in 1962. My other Pennants featuring Brooks are provided in the picture. In search of 1963, 1964, 1967, 1968, 1969, 1973 and 1974. If anyone has anything in the years mentioned, let me know.

The news hit earlier this afternoon that Tommy Davis had unfortunately passed away. As most Orioles fans know he was their first DH and played for them for four seasons (hitting .291 with a .327 OBP).

Here is a signed game used cap of his during his tenure in Baltimore:

Hard to believe that 40 years ago today Cal Ripken Jr. homered on his first AB of the season off the Royals' Dennis Leonard for his first career HR.

In 1983 the Orioles had a calendar giveaway & this photo was used for one of the months. Fortunately I was able to have it signed by both Jr. & Sr. (as an aside, I've always wondered what was going through their heads when this handshake took place):

Been traveling and getting caught up. Sad to see another former Oriole pass away. I was a big fan of Tommy during his time with the Orioles. He was pretty productive with the O's during those few years.

Every Oriole deserves some photos.

Earlier in the year I purchased an AP Wire Photo from the 1966 World Series depicting Game 3 starting pitchers Claude Osteen & Wally Bunker mainly due to the fact that I knew both still signed TTM.

I first sent it to Osteen and then to Bunker:

Default Jim Palmer retirement presentation book

Good afternoon,

I recently acquired from Jim Palmer's ex-wife a leather-bound book that was presented to him by the Orioles when he retired. The calligraphy in the book is all hand drawn and the entire book is made to look like a medieval manuscript.

It includes his World Series and LCS stats, as well a listing of the dates and his line from each of his 268 regular season wins.

Hey Mike....nice pickup!....September 1st 1985 would have been Jim Palmer Day @ Memorial Stadium (I have photos somewhere)

Over the weekend I acquired this game used Matt Weiters batting helmet that was worn in a 2010 TBTC game in Tampa:

Doesn't that just say it all about how such a cool, personal piece found it's way into the marketplace. Ugh.

Default Passing of Mike Adamson

I just heard from Bill this morning that former Orioles pitcher Mike Adamson has passed away.

Adamson pitched in 11 games for the Orioles over three seasons (1967-69). He sharied Topps & O-Pee-Chee rookie cards with Merv Rettenmund in 1969.

Here are a few additional items of Mike Adamson.

Default New Brooks Robinson postcard

I was excited to pick up what I believe to be a previously unknown team issued postcard of Brooks Robinson. A few Orioles postcard collectors and I believe it is from 1990. The Orioles printed a bunch of B&W postcards at the end of 1990 and the Robinson matches the size, format and style of those cards.

While I'm not 100% sure it's a team issue, I'm including it with my team issued postcards.

No. It is blank backed, as opposed to the color postcards that usually have a printed back.

While I'm not 100% sure it's a team issue, I'm including it with my team issued postcards.

While I’ve seen this photo and used in different formats I haven’t seen this example. Congrats on the pickup; sure looks like a team issue.

Thank you both! I love my Brooks collection, and I really enjoy seeing all the oddball Orioles memorabilia here.

Great afternoon/evening at Camden Yards yesterday as we got to see Adley Rutschman for the first time as well to see the Orioles come from behind and topple the Rays in extra innings.....

To top it off my buddy who works for the club hooked us up with former pitcher Scott Erickson postgame at Pickles Pub for some celebratory drinks:

Bill,

Looks like a lot of fun, but plenty of empty seats. Doesn't look like Adley's first couple games increased attendance.

Default 1957 Phoenix Stars

I know some of you have enjoyed me sharing some of my Orioles minor league collection.

I just picked up a 1957 Phoenix Stars program to put me one step closer to my goal. Beyond thrilled to have picked up a program that I thought was nearly impossible. It's a little stained, but have never seen another and couldn't pass it up.

The Phoenix Stars were an Orioles class C affiliate in the Arizona-Mexican League from 1956-1957. The 1957 team finished 89-48 and averaged about 1100 fans per game. The team featured future Orioles Gordin Sundin and Barry Shetrone, but the big name on the roster was young Cal Ripken Sr.

For anyone interested, here's my current wantlist of Orioles affiliates programs. Some look like they should be fairly easy, but trust me they aren't.

Alan:

Congrats on the Phoenix Stars program! Looks great........

Here is an incoming piece that I've never seen before. Appears that during the 1981 work stoppage, Baltimore radio station WFBR broadcasted the AAA Rochester Red Wings games & distributed this roster/scorecard:
