The plot thickens… it looks like these might be $5 coins, right?
Now I’m wondering if I should just list on eBay and try and sell myself (Feels like 1-2 of the dealers might be trying to slip a fastball by me here - “they are $2.50 pieces, I see these all the time!”) Not cool, dude. (You guys are all so great to help me out… helps me get my Cobb!) Here is the measurement |

As Butch mentioned, it looks like the hasp is marked, so see if you can read the purity. You'll definitely need that to list them on eBay as that's something a perspective buyer will want to know.

I have nothing to add that hasn't already been said, but I just want to say those are some very beautiful coins! I hope you're able to liberate them from the cufflinks; I always thought it was a shame to take a coin like that and turn it into jewelry.

Jeff,
Yes, $5.00 gold coins based on that measurement. Now find out about all the other gold potential around them. Find those karat marks. There is more potential money to be found man!!!!! Cheers, B. T.

Aaaaa HA!
Sweet, that will squeeze a bit more coin for you out of the cache. I have to second vintagetoppsguy on a previous comment. Find someone who will get those coins out of the holders. If they come out and are not damaged, and depending on the mint marks, there is more potential value to each of those coins depending on where they were minted. At a minimum, you know you have melt value to them and the jewelry around them. If the coins are undamaged there is the potential of a better return. You should separate the coins from the holders so you can get a more accurate accounting of both coin and jewelry. Both accurately weighed instead of a ballpark weight. 90% for the coins and 58% gold for the 14k parts. It is all about the Cobb sir.

Good morning all
I wanted to thank you all for your really insightful advice last weekend with my $5 gold coin cufflinks I have decided to sell them and wanted to ask if you might know of anyone who you know might be interested in these - I have been in touch with a few potential buyers but have not locked in a deal yet. Based on all of your advice, I am hoping to get $1500 Net to me for the pair - thanks for any leads or ideas you might have…. I posted them on EBay but I don’t know how much attention I’ll get since I am obviously not a jewelry seller there. Thanks again, all! #tyCobborBust |
