I know this is just my opinion but I preferably would have left them alone with the old look

Depends if you want to simply look at them or use them as furniture. I'm sure that old original paint has lead in it, and it looks like it was somewhat flaky. So every time you sit on the seats, a little more of it was likely to wear off.

If I had these in a hobby room and wanted to sit in them once in a while, and especially if I had young children, I'd want to do what the OP did - sand off that old paint, clean it up, and give it a fresh paint job. Then, no worries - just enjoy them.

Yes, to much wear on the seats, they were good for many years. But when I moved to Florida, no room, they sat in the sun on Lanai.. I’m happy with the results. Here is my other seat, think these were used by ushers or guards. Also, the original paint on this seat. Thanks

Fantastic job on the stadium seats Joe. Painting them does not take away the vintage look and makes them more inviting for people to use and enjoy. If they had the figural I may have been a little hesitant in altering them. The color looks an exact match.
