Default Show Me Sone Stan Musial Stuff

The most criminally underrated HOFer, IMO. 8th in WAR for position players. Let's give Stan The Man a show. One a day and let's keep it going. I will start with this:

1946 Sports Exchange Trading Post Photo Series, issued April 1946.

Next!

Here's a cool one, maybe the only one in existence. The reverse of the card is shown in my second photo.

My Dad took me to my first baseball game in June of 1963 because he wanted me to see Stan Musial in person before he retired. Koufax pitched that night. Musial sat. So I never saw him play. But I was fortunate to meet him several times, which was probably even better. I have the two scorecards from his 5-HR doubleheader in 1954. I went to his Stan The Man Inc. offices to have them autographed and he was there at the time. I got to sit with him for about 10 minutes while he signed and reminisced about those games. Just hearing him talk about the various at bats like they happened yesterday was an experience I wish I could have videotaped. For a lifelong Cardinals fan, it was a religious experience. "I could have had six - I pinned Mays against the wall on one of my outs." "I never tried to hit home runs but I sure did on that last at bat, and I popped up to first" and then he laughed that famous laugh. What a warm, genuine American hero. That nickname is absolutely perfect.

Great post - and agreed, what a career! This one taken just a short time before his MLB debut with the St Louis Cardinals on 17 Sept 1941.

Got the card when I was a kid; had it signed in the late 1980s at a show in SF while I was in school there. Goes into the grave with me

Only have a scant few 'Stan the Man' cards, but am especially happy to have this 'off-centered' (air quotes) one...

My Dad grew up in Kankakee, IL (1 hour south of Chicago) in the ‘40s and 50s, but grew up a Cardinal fan because of Stan. We moved to the St Louis area when I was 6 and Stan has always been held in high regard. The greatest Cardinal!

I've always been curious if anyone has a piece of Stan's that has his entire real name signed before he changed it to Stanley. That being Stanislaw Franciszek Musial. I assume not but who knows, maybe someone asked him to sign it one day and he obliged.

Here is a cool item and a beer I buy occasionally. Stan Musial 6 Classic American Lager. Also buy it for my 80 year old dad who asI mentioned above is a huge Stan fan. He thinks it’s the coolest thing. Brewed by Urban Chestnut Brewery in St Louis. Only sold in 16 oz cans! It’s really good too!

Default Show Me Sone Stan Musial Stuff

Can someone tell me why this only went for $100?
This would be Stan's first ever picture in a Cardinals uniform predating his m114 by a year. https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-1942-S...-127632-2357-0
The seller has a similar piece listed for bid right now as well but a portrait of Stan instead of his batting stance. Looks like they probably go together.

Edit: the link I sent was old. Looks like it resold for $195. And the other piece I mentioned sold as well in the past hour.

The other piece: https://www.ebay.com/itm/Rare-STAN-M...-127632-2357-0

Edit #2: Looks like Honus Wagner stopped by Donora to congratulate Stan as well. As he's listed as a guest. Thought that was pretty cool.

Amadee Wohlschlaeger was a popular sports cartoonist for the St. Louis Post Dispatch from 1936-1981. He is a member of the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame.
His work was simply singed, "Amadee". (Can you blame him?) In addition to sports he also also drew a daily front page cartoon of the Weatherbird for 49 years.

Growing up in St. Louis, Stan and Amadee were front and center. Art critics and others will disagree, but in my eyes this is a one of a kind mini-masterpiece.

Default 1946-47 Propagandas Montiel Musial

I don't think Stan has a bad card. Here's a tougher one. 1946-47 Propagandas Montiel.

Thanks Jerry! I’m not positive but believe around 62-64.

Not pre 1980, but still cool original artwork for Upper Deck Masterpieces by Andy Jurinko.

I don't have much Musial stuff, just his much too late Topps run. I'll post my 58 All Star card, easily one of my favorite cards from that set. The "triple printed finally can produce" a card of Stan the Man. Hard not to think of the classic cards Stan would have had from 52-57 in Topps, especially 57. Also would have been nice to see a 54-55 Bowman card...
