An online auction find;

Diamond Matchbooks:

U1 - Silver Border - 1934
Billy Herman
Earl Adams
Richard Gyselman

U3-1 - 1935
Bill Urbanski

The Herman is rough with pockmarks as if it was stepped on in the gravel, but at the end of the day its still a period piece of a HOF'er.

How do you do that, not collect matchbooks with strikers? I personally can't collect them unless the strikers are still attached. LOL

Otherwise, great pickup, really love those silver border matchbooks. Way under appreciated as collectibles.

It’s all about the upgrade! lol. I could go on eBay and buy the best examples, but I like finding vintage stuff in the wild and then upgrading when I can within my budget. Much more fun to me that way.

The silver border ones sure are the prettiest to me too, and I agree, under appreciated.

Picked up these 4 T202 Cobbs from someone on the board to get down to 3 cards to complete my T202 set.

Great logic, can't disagree. Good luck if you ever think about going after the set.

Thanks! There are several different sets, actually throughout the years. Some years have small numbers in the sets so set completion is a real possibility.

Am well aware. Been working on all five sets off and on over the years. The Silver Borders are really great though, with some supposed tough SPs/rarities. I think it may be the nicest looking set of the five different Diamond Matchbooks sets out there, with the 1935 Black Border set being a really really close second in terms of looks, if not actually an equal. All are very underappreciated to my thinking.
