I handle a LOT of magazines - not just sports. As suggested above DO NOT attempt to just protect the cover. If the magazine is that "pristine" and preserving the value is important to you, then I wouldn't even handle it and consider getting graded by CGC. As far as wanting to read or look at advertisements, as has been suggested try to find a digitized copy or spring for another copy in poor condition for "reading". If you don't care about preserving value, then just do whatever makes you happy!
