Interesting how Boston had two guys widely acknowledged to be the greatest ever at their positions and arguably the greatest ever in their sports, during nearly their entire careers: Brady and Bobby Orr. I would put Bill Russell up there but Wilt Chamberlain was simply a better overall player, just with crappier overall teams. I don't count Babe Ruth because, let's face it, he was a Yankee icon.

Every thread needs cards:

I'd post a Brady but my football collection cuts off at 1975.

Anyone who thinks all Wilt could do was score (as if that was a bad thing in a game where the team with the most points wins) should find film of the 1972 Knicks Lakers finals. I have nothing but good things to say about Russell, but it always seemed to me there was something perverse about people who ranked him over Chamberlain and found it to Russell's credit that he did not score a lot.

Transcendent players are so few. Brady is a once in a lifetime talent. We all got to enjoy him in borrowed time. Can't ask for more than that.

Great career for sure...just imagine if he hadn't the misfortune of facing Eli Manning twice in the Super Bowl

+1 agree but I am glad he is retiring so it gives other teams a chance to win.

Not that my team will ever win

Sad to hear this, but at least he went out before he declined.

If this were baseball, wouldn't people be making all sorts of PED assumptions if someone was still playing at a very high level at 44?
