Topps also printed these cards and released them into 2017 Topps Update packs a few years ago: ![]() https://www.blowoutforums.com/showth...light=clemente 50 cards were marked TOPPS CERTIFIED AUTO, and were released in packs unautographed. The checklist included dead players like Ted Williams and Roberto Clemente. Theoretically those could be signed by forgers and sent in under TPGs rules and may not be required to be reviewed for authenticity. In this case, most of the TPGs are probably aware, but BGS and PSA have both authenticated autographed cards printed after the deaths of their subjects because they didn't do the research before certifying the cards or autos properly.

There are also cards that went out the back door. I have a near set of Peter Max football inserts from 1997 Topps Gallery that have the certified autograph embossing but no autographs.

I have a stack of classic autograph cards that were never signed and were a bit of a mystery for a while. All the same player. First Beckett had them in the list of signed cards, then they were gone.

On the Albert Pujols wiped/resigned auto, Goldin has mailed it back to PSA for card and auto authentication. Not sure what PSA will do at this point.
And for the devil's advocate who thinks this isn't an issue, here's a quote from the Blowout thread: "This pisses me off. No different than the large % of trimmed vintage out there. One at a time ruining the most important cards ever made." So yes, some collectors are appalled at wiping off an original signature and having it resigned later.

Amazingly, since a rapid-fire January, there haven't really been any major hobby scandals since then, just continued unraveling of previously reported stories. Based on the 'Beware of Beckett' thread, looks like many here were aware of the Marx cards submission scandal at PSA.
The bankruptcy court is not allowing PSA to send back cards to their owners yet. They ruled that PSA must keep them in a hearing yesterday. So those 50,000 cards are still stuck in grading limbo, but both PSA and Marx asserted that they had no claims of ownership to any of the submissions.

And I suspect at this point it isn't entirely just up to Marx and PSA to both claim no rights of ownership to the submissions, and that is it. The bankruptcy court, and especially Marx creditors, might have completely different opinions that could override anything Marx or PSA have to say. |

Great list thanks for keeping us updated John. Heard the PWCC auction yesterday was a real mess.
