Wow, really strong prices. T206 HOF Portraits are very hot...and imagine if those were rare backs.

Agree! I quickly lost hope on the higher grades. I came just short on the SGC20 Clarke. I have one already in poor so it was a slight upgrade. But with the juice, I felt $190 was too much. It was a good auction tho!

Actually, that is a welcome thing to see.

A million years ago (pre-grading) when I was amassing T206s most of what I saw were f-g-vg with a smattering of better, but none of the razor sharp 6-7-8 today seems to have. IMO the 4-5 range is about the realistic peak for T206 cards that aren't likely to have been messed with, so those are very nice cards and are getting the respect they deserve.

One thing I could never figure is the relative lack of respect for Lajoie and Eddie Collins. Top-tier HOFers who haven't really commanded the respect commensurate with their skills. Collins is 10th and Lajoie 18th in career WAR; 2nd and 3rd among 2B behind (barely, for Collins) Hornsby. But valued like Joe Tinker? Just makes no sense to me...

Couldn’t agree more. Collins takes a hit for the sham Jackie tryout I think. Lajoie though I don’t see any downside. Plus he’s got great looking cards and a cool name. What’s not to love?

Prices seem strong across the board at many of the auctions right now. Considering that, I have a follow up question for you guys. Which auction house would you trust to get the most for your T206 cards? This doesn't necessarily mean the auction house that you like to buy from. Would you offer them up on this site first? I'm not looking to sell right now, but am curious to see what you all think....Thanks!

REA in my opinion. Total class operation, great communication, probably the best catalog, quick payout (just received mine after only 2.5 weeks following auction end), large audience of potential buyers, etc.

Thanks for the response. From a buying perspective, I have found that REA is very good to deal with.

Yes REA, I got great prices for my 4 Cobb’s awhile back.

REA, LOTG and Sterling are all top-notch in my book. I would not hesitate to consign a T206 collection to any of them. FWIW, I think Sterling offers the best opportunity for non-superstar consignments. Lee has mastered selling graded singles.

Well shit. I guess I did win the Clarke! I’m on vacation and didn’t pay close enough attention to the final. Well, I’m happy to snag it.

A very rough SGC 1 Lajoie portrait went for $420, which is strong for that grade.

Another thing that is interesting is the results on the trimmed T206s. The red portrait Cobb, Young portrait and Johnson portrait. All clearly trimmed, all SGC A:

Cobb: $3240
Young: $1,560
Johnson: $1,560

I wondered what altered cards might sell for properly disclosed. With the insane prices of (allegedly) unaltered cards, maybe this is a way to collect on a budget. Would you prefer an A like one of these or a 1-1.5?

I won the SGC A Cobb and you nailed it Adam - I think altered cards properly identified as authentic and not given numeric grades are great looking cards for the price. I know a lot of people don't like altered cards, but for me this is a much better looking card at $3240 than a 1 for just as much (or more)
