The following Ruth autograph came into a friend of mines shop. The lady said that it belonged to her uncle. I have attached a picture of the autograph.
Any opinions on the authenticity ? I will try to get better pictures. Thanks in advance. Last edited by kaddyshack; 12-08-2021 at 03:01 PM. |

Need a larger clearer picture of the autograph. Picture of her uncle is irrelevant.

Need to see a bigger pic of the autograph but from first small glance I can’t rule it out.

What's on the other side?
With the undivided back the postcard is most likely from before 1907 when the divided backs were allowed. It seems like a strange thing to have him sign, but possible. |

Good point, I will ask my friend if he can get a picture of the front of the postcard.

Far from an expert, but why does it look like two different pens were used for "Sincerely" and "Babe Ruth"?
Also, the curvature of the crossing of the "t" seems atypical.

I’d love to help you on this. I’ve studied Ruth extensively. My gut says real; and just an extremely rushed example. But then again, the “u” is very atypical. As is the crossing of the “t”. Gun to my head: real. But too many weird things that would prevent me from purchasing it.

I think it's the same pen. There was just a greater ink flow when the signer first started writing. The "Since" is bolder, while the "rely" matches the "Babe Ruth" below it. Pretty typical for fountain pen of that era.

I am following this thread and wonder if one could compare the word "Sincerely" to other known examples of the Babe writing that word. The word looks weird (the letters don't look to spell sincerely) to me but to the untrained the writing looks to all be from the same hand (with the pen losing ink flow as previously mentioned).
Good luck! |

Check PSA exemplars with "Sincerely"
https://www.psacard.com/autographfac...l/babe-ruth/42 I found at least 8 with that word. |

In “sincerely” his r’s and his e’s almost always take on the same shape. And in this example they certainly do. Again, most likely real. But just some weird letter formations.

Thanks everybody for chiming in. The lady never brought the autograph back to my friend's shop.

Here are a couple of pics of one of my Ruth signatures with the Sincerely for comparison.
