I think his 52 Bowman is visually far superior to his 52 Topps. Artistically, the Topps is just not a well conceived card IMO.

I was tempted to put up my 54 Gil Hodges PSA 4MK for sale but it felt like a dick move. No offense to the dozens of folks who are capitalizing on the situation. I like the way the card looks anyhow and so I’ll keep it even though I believe it will never be worth more than it is this week. If I had a more valuable card like a 52 Minoso or something like that I would probably sell. I do have a 62 Minoso but that one difference in digit makes it a significantly less valuable card.

I will often check out the autograph prices when a player dies, similar to the spike you are talking about here. LaMarr Hoyt broke the curve when he died. Not much had sold prior, but around the time it was announced, they started flying off the shelves! Not uncommon at all.
I buy mostly autographs now, so I have tried to get the players ahead of time that I think may go up in cost. It happens all the time, but with only so much $ to spread around, we often get let holding the empty bag. I think Rod Carew for example is one to grab now if you somehow don't have one already. He seems to have signed a lot of stuff, but when he goes, people will still be jumping on everything.

I prefer the 1952 Topps overall. Bowman is too cartoony for me. Probably why I am not a fan of the 1953 Topps either. I so wish he'd been in 1954 and 1955 Topps.

I was lucky enough to have this "Orestes" included in the cards my father gave me.
Keeping with the theme of this thread, I should have purchased more of his cards like I said above, but just yesterday and today, I decided to purchase an Exhibit and a post card of his.
