Mike Root of CAS. I doubt anyone is perfect but I have little reason to doubt how good he is. We use him for at LEAST the first opinion of everything in our auction. If there is a financial reason to use one of the big companies we do so after we gt his stamp of approval.

As another poster mentioned, SGC doesn’t do autographs anymore; they stopped after they got lit up in the fake signed T206 scandal a couple years ago.

At the very least, I give them props for realizing they were over their heads and bailed. Much different than just sweeping it under the rug until time makes people forget.

Not sure if Jim Stinson is still doing it, but he was always very well respected by serious autograph collectors.
Another is Richard Albersheim. Below is a link with his info... https://albersheims.com/aboutus.aspx Best of luck! |

My really valuable Ruth baseball and two 1933 Goudey cards were/are authenticated by Harvey Brandwein, who I am told is one of the best.

I'd add Richard Simon to the names of knowledgeable authenticators

I know this post was about vintage, but Mike Root lost a lot of cred with me in this thread:
https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=266127 I agree with the above about the expertise on this forum. If I could get my items directly in front of Kevin Keating or Bill Corcoran, awesome. Otherwise, I'd trust this forum over any of the faceless entities. |
