Default SGC - Question on Submission Results

I just received a batch of cards back from SGC and overall they graded as I expected...a few better a few worse, some right in line. But...I have a question as I'm new to TPG.

One of my cards (T206 Collins - EPDG) came back as ungraded and the only note on the sleeve says NO. Nothing in the SGC portal is noted either.

I had asked for any grade applied when I sent it in knowing it was creased badly...I figured at least I would have it protected and holdered.

Can I simply ask for more information as to why? I thought at a minimum it could get an "A". Feels like a wasted $30.00.

Comparatively speaking, it measures within tolerances for T206.

I'm not looking to start a TPG bashing thread, but inevitably I'm sure it will turn into it.

Thanks for any insight!

Bill

That crease is quite heavy. Maybe its too fragile and they were worried the card would split during or sometime after sealing the card? I've seen rejection for that reason on here before.

Hmm, good theory, but still kinda weird. I could see if they sleeved it before they put it in the slab, as it might be hard to sleeve.

In my experience , a waste of time to inquire. You will get some generic response about it was reviewed by a professional grader blah-blah, but ultimately no answer, again, my experience. FWIW, I had a Ted Williams RC they would not holder, had a similar crease.

creases then that in slabs. Had a similar experience recently - no explanation - 2 emails to customer service - no response.

I am accepting select private consignments of quality vintage cards (raw or graded) and collecting "want" lists for higher end ($1K+) vintage cards.

Thanks all! I have an old PSA slab from a cracked out card that is undamaged that I can use with some tape to secure it more than a penny sleeve.

I'll just leave it as is.

they didn't refund you the $30? that's weak. i've had a few cards that SGC wouldn't grade for 1 reason or another, but they always refunded the cost of grading.

Really? I've had this same "NO" result on cards that I know are authentic, but they never refunded anything...

They did refund my $$ on the Williams, for sure. That was pre-covid though, and maybe even pre- new holders.
Maybe management changed? Maybe policy changed?

I had asked for add information on a previous SGC shipment. They informed me that the graders do not keep any of their notes. Which I though was odd actually.

So, you more than likely will receive the same response as well.

Regards,

B.T.

If my memory serves me, I remember the president saying just that, when they went over to the new grading system, one of the perks was that their comments would be posted along side the grade.

You have to check the box on the submission saying if it does not qualify for a numeric grade that you want it holdered as Authentic. If you check your submission form and checked that box, they should have slabbed it A.
