I just don't understand the market anymore. But that's the same for stocks, real estate, and lots of other things, so why should cards be any different.

Just jumped over to VCP and thought of the first iconic card that came to mind. 1933 Goudey Gehrig #92. What's a real nice condition for that one, but not insanely high end. Let's look at PSA 5. Here are the most recent sales reported:

0/24/21 $14,000.00 Auction
Image 60 PWCC Monthly
10/9/21 $10,269.60 Auction
Image 12 Memory Lane
4/15/21 $17,400.00 Auction
Image 22 Heritage
1/24/21 $7,799.00 Image

I'd say this 2021 history is probably fairly representative of a lot of cards I've been watching recently. Exploded in March-April. Came down a fair amount over the summer - early fall. Now back up some but not up to April high.

I've been watching Gehrig's #92 Goudey as well. It's definitely been on an upswing recently, price wise. A PSA 4 just sold in Heritage for 11K.

Creating my Watch List was like writing a letter to Santa.

Incredible stuff!

It’s my belief the only thing that could bring card prices back down to the mid 2020 levels would be a major crypto meaning btc.bs/eth.com correction.

I can't say you are wrong, but me thinks the number of crypto rich guys in vintage baseball is much smaller than some think. I would think that new crazy money is going more towards Luka and Zion refractor cards, Patty Mahomes and Brady "rarities", and even soccer cards. Honestly don't think there a ton of 33 year olds who care about Ty Cobb.

I have no doubts in my mind the modern basketball run up has brought up vintage a long with it. I know several younger guys who invest in modern Graded basketball/football. Since the beginning of this year they have been buying graded vintage, the safe smarter money will always flock to vintage. Higher end vintage will go down the least when it comes down. It’s my believe the AH’s are now flooded with middle and off Grade vintage. How many more multiple 51 and 48 Mantle and Jackie Rookies can you see in grades 1-4 in these auctions, every one has multiples in each.

I agree vintage is far safer, but that's like trying to convince a 25 year old that he needs to stop speculating in GameStop and AMC stock and should start buying IBM and Waste Management stock instead.

I disagree, I think there are a ton of thirty somethings right here on Net54 that not only know more about, but probably already have a better Cobb collection than you!

What a stupid comment on a forum of card collectors.

OK, you showed me.

I should know better. I was out at a happy hour last night, mostly folks from the office in their 30s, and all anyone wanted to talk about was the Sherry Magee error card and Polar Bear backs. Particularly the young woman. Man do they have a thing for Magee. And Red Cobbs? They wouldn't stfu all night. I think one of the Kardashians is hoarding them.

This is a public forum based on VINTAGE baseball cards. It is safe to assume that almost everyone on here is pretty up on Ty Cobb, not just the blue hairs. I guess you’re just not aware of many members ages.

I know thirty year olds that have purchased 100K T206 cards right here on the BST this year......

Well that settles it. It’s a mania among 30 year olds. Taylor Swift will be on the bandwagon any day.

The original discussion has zero to do with who was on this board is interested in cards. But this does amuse me. Maybe they can have a Ty Cobb booth at the next Lollapallloza.
